I believe Bush let 9/11 happen. It was a tragedy and idiots bowed at his feet for being such a "good" leader for getting them through it. I believe he let it happen because he got a big pay-off from bin Laden. He let it happen to gain Americans' support and a fat check from Osama.

I think that if Bush could have stopped it, he would have. He would have looked the hero, and he still would have gotten his war. He just made a bad situation work for him. I won't believe he wanted those folks to die. It was the result of arrogance, stupidity, and corporate-style over-management IMO.

Sidenote:
September 11th 2001 was the original first day of shooting of Jackie Chan's movie "Nosebleed", a film in which Jackie was to play a window-washer on the World Trade Center, stuck in it a la Die Hard when a terrorist group was supposed to seize it, and threaten to blow it up if their demands weren't met.
First shooting day was pushed back a month, otherwise they would have been filming there that day, how weird is that?
The film was obviously scrapped.
