Yep. Lots of Doctors through the years. With 12 regenerations there can be 13 of them if the laws of Gallifrey apply, but you'll run into some questions on that as the series continues.
So far there have been 10 canon Doctors, plus several notable "extras" like Peter Cushing in the 1960's movies or Rowan Atkinson in "Curse of the Fatal Death".

Anyone know anything about the war that wiped out the Time Lords or is that new to this series?

I am so glad to hear the first few episodes are the weakest....even with Christopher E, who I really like, I was about to give up on it. But I'll keep watching now. Thanks Browncoats! You are a constant source of information and amusement. (And, damn, alot of you are good writers.)

The war was never featured before the Eccleston season and is NOT anything to do with the books.
Keep watching and you'll soon find out what happened.

Quick question : Was Chritopher E on 28 Days Later as that Captain of the army or whatever living in that huge mansion? He looks oddly fimilar to me.

"Rose."

I caught it last year when CBC ran it during it's initial run. I agree that thre first few eps wern't much, but around the first two parter, that's when things got really interesting. But it was "Dalek" that made me sit up and say to myself "OK, It's official. This is the best sci-fi show since FIREFLY". Trust me, when you see this ep, you'll be saying the exact same thing.
I have the first season DVD of it, but because of school I'm too busy to look at it. But once I get a few free weeks in April, I'll be going through the set like mad.

Quote:I am. I’ve become quite fascinated with it. Now that BSG is not running on Friday nights, I’ve started watching Dr. Who instead. I’ve gone all out, even putting a Dr. Who Wallpaper on my desktop at work, something that I’m not certain is completely kosher with the XO, but he hasn’t told me not to yet. I’m a rebel.

I completely agree that once the show hits "Aliens of London", "World War III", and "Dalek" it grows leaps and bounds every following episode until the season finale...and what a finish that is to the first season!
I am only slightly disappointed in the minor cuts being made to make commercial time, generally about 1-2 minutes per show. Last week's episode "Unquiet Dead" has a great moment early on when Rose comes back from getting changed;
Doctor: "You look beautiful...considering."
Rose: "Considering what?"
Doctor: "Considering you're human."
Rose then questions why the Doctor doesn't change his outfit and he points out that he did change his jumper (sweater)...after which Rose insists on going out of the TARDIS first, since this is her first time stepping into the past...hence the shot they cut to of her carefully placing her foot in the snow. Minor stuff, but great character detail in the scene.

I simply find it a bit too... British. The original show was British as well... and after watching both old and new I just couldn't get into it very much.
What do I mean by British? The humour is dry and some things are assumed which I don't exactly enjoy... and, it's MOM, not mum! ;)
Even so, I still say it's better than half the TV shows out there.
