Nobody's mentioned Robby the Robot yet?! My absolute favorite! Originally in Forbidden Planet, he 'guest starred' in a whole bunch of things, including a great episode of Arc II.
After that, who can forget Huey/Luey/Duey from Silent Running? Loved the little guys!
I am assuming this does not include "mecha", right?
"It's a cow."

Any of the robots from Ice Pirates (that movie just cracks me up :)
(Hmm... wonder if Joss ever saw that movie...)

As soon as I read the title of the thread, I was thinking "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!
I'm a child of the 70s so its:
Lost in Space Robot
R2D2
Neighbor lady robot in the original "Stepford Wives" (very creepy!)
Oh, and I actually liked AI -- so the kid, his teddy bear and the gigolo robot are runners up for me.

"Appears they've cancelled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"
"Ain't we just."

People, you shame me! Are we perhaps forgetting a certain Techno Human EmuLating MAchine, hmmm? You can't help but feel sorry for Thelma's memory chip problems, even though they make her act somewhat like you want to kill her and yourself.(clumsy-ass-thinks-he-knows-it-all Harlan)
And don't forget the Gizbot, useful little thing.(when it isn't malfunctioning and stealing eating utensils) Oh fantastic, now I'm having Space Cases nostalgic depression on top of an overdue English paper during exam week. In conclusion, my problems are many and overwhelming, not unlike Thelma's. So go Thelma!(or...ah..yeah,something)

HK-47 for the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He is a sarcastic asassin droid whose favorite way to describe humans is the word "meatbag".
R2D2 (more SW) cause I'm convinced that those fart noises he makes are swears or similar rude comments. He's a smarta**.
Even though it's not really one of my favorites, this is annoying me. What did they call that wierd little robot thing on Power Rangers?
Also, on a related subject, go here http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/tests/giantrobot/ for a fun little test to see which colossal death robot you would be. The title is a bit missleading since Bender is one of the possibilities.
Here's my result:
Scowling wilfully towards Autobot City, you're Megatron!
Look in a mirror and feel the evil. Then eat the mirror. You eat mirrors for breakfast. You are a badass death robot. You busted on Optimus Prime. You. Are. Megatron. Go outside and burn some animals, because you're worth it.

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.
Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.

The first Power Rangers robot was Alpha 5. I have no clue where Alpha's 1 through 4 might be. Nor do I particularly care.
I don't really have a favourite, being such a huge Transfan (seriously; Transformers is about as big to me as Firefly). It tends to be whatever TF I last laid eyes on.
If we're discounting mecha, then my vote goes for the ultimate machine, the king of droids, and one of the greatest characters ever devised by human mind:
DRD 1812

Gort! "Klaatu Barada Nikto!"
Bishop "Yeah man, right. Bishop should go. Good idea!!"
Sonny "I DID NOT MURDER HIM!"
These are good, but the best EVER is...
Roy Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die." (This was Ad-Libbed by Hauer, how cool is that for an actor?)

Quote:While not strictly a 'robot', he is a manufactured being, and as such I would agree he is the best.
