I really get tired of every gorram problem in the 'verse getting blamed on the Bush Administration, hypothetical or not. Yeah, Iraq was a ruttin' mistake...should have focused on Afghanistan. But if the US pulls out now, Bush-bashers will wail about the mess we left the country in; if we stay, the Hate Bush Cuz We're Supposed To Crowd will wail on about the "occupation".

It doesn't matter what the Bush Admistration does, bashers will find SOMETHING to raise indignant hell about and bash for the sake of bashing, period.

And no, I'm not a republican...I'm not a democrat either. I have no political party. The big two are BOTH a bunch of corrupt, uber-rich hwoon dahns. I'm just sick of the constant infusion of anti-Bush-this, anti-Bush-that into my entertainment.

And puh-leeze, you pseudo-intellectual politicos, don't bother trying to convince me otherwise.

Whew...thank gawd that rant is over with, where the hell did that come from?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I remember post 9/11, the US government specifically told Hollywood to avoid making anything unpatriotic. Also, many radio stations were banned from playing certain songs, including John Lennons 'Imagine' (wtf??). I havent heard of them poking their noses into what could be shown on TV, but if they interfered in the business of Hollywood, then I dont think TV would have escaped. Most likely FOX weren't specifically told to take FF off the air, they just did so out of fear of pissing someone off

There was no government ban on any songs, either demanded or even requested. Many individual stations decided not to air certain songs that they considered inappropriate and some large chains shared lists with their program directors in case some songs hadn't been thought of before they were aired...but the decisions were at our local leverls, not even corporate.

To give a completely non-9/11 comparison, when the Pope was shot one automated country station is supposed to have followed the newscast with the song "Drop-Kick me Jesus Through the Goal Post of Life". Would you want to be the guy responsible for that?

If you want to slam the media there's plenty to work with that is true; use the conference call that Clear Channel had with all of their program directors 2 or 3 days after the WTC fell where the head of the company instructed us to milk 9/11 for every ratings point we could.

Right. I was a reporter at a local newspaper at the time of 9/11/01, and I remember driving to town hall (or wherever the hell I was going- I was all over town that day) and hearing "Papa Loved Mama" on the radio. (For those who don't know Garth Brooks songs, this one involves a jealous husband driving his truck into the motel room his wife and her lover are using.) I was stunned. How could anyone play a song like that on a day like that? Then I realized that it was probably just part of a pre-set playlist, and everyone was too distracted by the developing news to think about the lyrics. I imagine they got more than a few complaints.
I am entirely against governmental censorship of controversial music/books/etc., but a little responsible self-censorship can be a good thing. People forget that media types are just human beans, who make mistakes that are NOT part of a conspiracy to melt your brain or take your gun or whatever.

6 months before 9/11/2001, the local university radio station WUTK replaced all DJs with robots, and cancelled all news programs. One of their comedy programs was The Rich Flemball Show, by a local theater group. They were the only broadcaster in the region for Counterspin and The Nation, which attacked many of the genocides perped by US govt. They also heavily censored their song list. That was the same week that Pentagon's Operation Northwoods was reported by ABC News, about the US govt plan to hijack US airliners by remote control, blow them up by remote control, then blame an innocent nation to falsely justify invasion and war. Our town's pirate radio station KFAR (Jewish Commies) was raided by FBI right before the last election. They were playing many of those censored songs, plus the indy songs that are never played on network stations. Some of those songs accused Bush of perping the 9/11 terrorist massacres. They were not interfering with any licensed station, and FCC turned down every application for a license. They played the best music in town, since it wasn't endless rotation of the same old songs that drove you crazy years ago.

The US govt does have a de facto ban on anything it wants, by withholding FCC licenses, and withholding "advertising" and "CAFR pension fund investments". Bush Jr has spent billions of taxdollars on covert propaganda in USA, paid only to those who follow orders. $70-trillion in CAFR pension funds are looted every year, much of it used to fund the garbage on TV and radio networks. Do you really think Jewish drug addict Rush Limbaugh is paid a $270-million contract because he tells the truth? That's called bribery.

I don't think Joss Whedon was worried about politics at all when he created the show. I know Gene Roddenberry was always trying to make political statements, but I don't see those here. Sure, there are good messages to get out of it, but this show was not out to change the world. It's entertainment. Fox just made another stupid decision on this one. No consipiracy. Sorry.
