I'm sure there's been a million of 'em thought up by now. What if world events had something to do with it?

Politics is is merely economics in action.

Think about it. In 2002, Bush was about to invade Iraq and Fox has always been an ardent supporter of all things Bush. The "Bushites" represent the Alliance in many ways.

The last thing they want to be promoting/supporting is a show centered around a group of rebels who buck the system every chance they get.

The economy went in the crapper in 2001, if you remember. Way before September 11. We couldn't sell ads to save our lives at my radio station; Cheap Channel had already slashed staff by 30% twice before 9/11. After that day advertising was completely dead for over a year.

As stated earlier in this thread, something like politics is economics in action. And economics sometimes happen without politics. With no money coming in media execs were going batsh!t no matter what their politics were and were killing anything out of the ordinary in order to protect themselves with "cost-cuting measures". We don't need to look for right-wing conspiracies here, just incompetent decisions from suits worried about the bottom line and about covering their @sses.

I don't doubt it either. Especially when the bad guys in FF were specifically referred to as "The Feds."

Same with The Lone Gunmen, the spin off of X-Files. Released just prior to 9-11 I believe, the pilot episode shows one of the LG looking a computer simulation of a plane flying into skyscrapers. Don't recall if it was the WTC or not.
Cancelled after 6 episodes.

Does that seem right to you?

FF and STBDM dredges all that up again, along with the underground resistance to the Bush Gang's New World Order Alliance. Joss made a gutsy move with FF, so it was censored before its first episode. Note that Bush/Universal/Interscope also bought out Eminem's Mosh and Jadakiss' Why? Both songs accuse Bush of perping the 9/11 terrorism, so Bush simply bought them out and spiked 'em - while still profiting from them.

Y'know, both parties have had delusions of themselves being "freedom fighters trying to make it in the world and give the government what for" over the past many many years. Back when Clinton was in office, the Ruepublicans were the "down and out" party that a lot of people went running two. All I see is two parties switching off control of an opressive empire and trying to appeal to their respective crowds of blind followers.

Firefly is very obviously loosely based off of what it has been admitted to being many times before: The Civil War. Back then, the Southern Democrates supported many issues that Republicans support today, and vice versa. One party feeling opressed by the other is a re-occuring event in US History, it's supposed to be that way, and I don't see how they justify painting themselves as "Freedom Fighters" just because they're the ones who currently have the short end of the stick.

No matter who goes into office, they're always gonna be a rich bastard with connections who live far outside the masses of people that they claim to represent. Supporting Bush is just as much supporting the evil empire as would be supporting Clinton, Bush Sr., or Kerry.
