The last Whedon show standing premieres its new season tonight!!

As usual, the main critic at USA Today, Robert Bianco, has nice things to say about the show and about Whedon. After a mere sentence long blurb on Smallville (and no that sentence wasn't 'Dawson's Creek with Superpowers and celebate teens'), here's what the writer had to say about Angel:

Quote:

"...The network follows Smallville with the return of Angel (9 ET/PT). Renewed and revamped, so to speak, Angel proves that all is well in the Buffyverse

True, Buffy herself is gone (she's touring Europe, we're told), but the departure of her show allowed Joss Whedon to focus his creative gifts on Buffy's spinoff.

Changes abound. Angel (David Boreanaz) and his friends are now running the Los Angeles branch of the world's most powerful and evil "multidimensional corporation." Cordelia is gone, but the show gains the comic addition of Harmony as an inept vampire assistant with a spicy new recipe for blood.

There have been structural changes as well: The episodes are more self-contained, and the stories are easier to follow. What hasn't altered is Whedon's ingenious mix of comedy and suspense; his fascination with the meanings of right, wrong and responsibility; and his ability to produce a ceaselessly entertaining hour of television."

Thanks for the reminder. I would have totally missed it and I really want to see the show. I'm looking forward to seeing how Spike joins the team.

I've seen the first 2 eps. They're pretty good, but the Monster of the Week has become Client of the Week, and the first two of these new species of villains are quite crappy. But (if you know who Angel's new secretary is, or don't mind getting spoiled...)

is hilarious and the cast feels full of energy, even if some romantic subplots hinted at feel painfully contrived. The dialogue, of course, is great and if the show doesn't descend into Client of the Week suckiness then this could be a great season.
But I want Cordy...

Actually, I don't really like...um..."angel's new secretary" and I don't much care for Eve either. I like Knox and yay, someone from Firefly. Unfortunately, he sort of has that "gonna turn evil or gonna die" air about him. After a while of Joss, you start to pick up on these things. I'm wondering how Spike is going to stay in L.a. and not run back to his beloved Buffy and I REALLY hope he doesn't rehook up with

Angel is still likable, Wes is the same as he has been of late. Fred seems like she's going to get more stressed out. Gunn's in for a big change, clearly. I like Gunn, so I hope it's nothing bad. If Lorne turns evil, I'm going to cry because it's against the rules!

Knox on Angel played Tracey in The Message. Knox is the guy that works for Fred in the lab. His character was introduced in Angel 422 when they were given the offer to take over the LA branch of Wolfram & Hart.

He also played Holden Webster in the Buffy episode Conversations with Dead People. He was the vamp that Buffy was talking to and is one of 3 people that have been in all 3 Joss shows.
