I was a mild fan of the comics (never got into comics period, being the reason), and grew up watching the cartoon series.

I really liked the first X-Men, and absolutely loved X2. It still stands at my favorite superhero film (Batman Begins being a very, very close second), mostly because of how much I feel I can relate to it. It's the atmosphere about X-Men that always got me, so I'm really optimistic about X3.

If they do put in Sentinels, I'm hoping they do so discretely. Giant robots seems like it'd detract way too much from the universe they've established in the films. Now, The Operative-like secret assassins as Sentinels, that I think I would thoroughly enjoy.

It goes along with a golden (lowercase) rule... What works in one medium doesn't always work in another. So, what's good in comics might not work on-screen, what works on TV might not work in movies, what works in movies might not work in books, and so on. Rather than getting hung up over what's different, it's better to take the movies as movies in their own right. Hell, I mean, comic series themselves are seldom internally consistent.

I've never read many comics, other than Archie comics, because there isn't a comic book store within 100 kms of where I live. So it's kinda difficult for me to get ahold of comics. Which is a shame, because I'd really like to read some of the X-men and the Firefly comics. But, what are you gonna do?

I hope that they put the old X-men TV series on DVD. That would be fantastic. I'd buy them right away. I'm actually surprised they haven't tried to capitalize on that, what with the success of the movies and all.

Anyway, here's hoping the movie doesn't suck. If it does, I guess I just won't buy the DVD of it.

Oh, you poor deprived person from the North...

Just between you and I, I'll let you in on a little secret. There's this thing called the internet, and there are places there where you can find just about everything (provided you have a piece of plastic in good standing, that is).

I can't really offer a thorough comment on any comics after 1988 (when I stopped collecting for the final time). The few I saw subsequent to that period were pretty bad. And I imagine back issues of the classics would cost more than a mortgage (wish I kept mine).

But, I'm pretty sure they've reprinted most of the classics. (I know you can get the first 100 issues of Spiderman in trade paperback -- albeit in B&W) They used to have a trade paperback of the Dark Phoenix saga, too, which I'm sure you can find online. Although, you really want the back story (which may not be reprinted), and then once they hook you, you'll want the subsequent 100 issues or so (and I'm not sure if they're reprinted either).

Regardless of what "Halle Berry" wants, Storm was leader of the Xmen for quite awhile, she deserves more screen time.

I agree with you that it's a stretch to go in that sort of direction if they don't already have a leaning that way in the initial film. Although, they did have a certain "cosmic" leaning in the FF film, so maybe...

You can thank Halle Berry for that Storymark. Her whinging and threatening to not do the movie if the story didn't focus more on her forced the powers that be to put her front & center. I personally wish they had let her walk and cast someone as Storm who was less a self absorbed diva.

confirm that they're going to be killing off my beloved Cyclops. First he gets about six minutes of screen time in X2, now they're going to kill him. Damn.

Halle Berry annoys me no end. I read a review for Catwoman that compared her to Sharon Stone, they were both actresses of dubious quality who got famous for flashing their private bits at the screen. Hopefully Halle will wind up in Sharon's boat, revisiting the role that made her famous twenty years later in a film that no one really wanted to see.

Plus, she had Storm drop the "g" off of a word. That's just not right. To paraphrase Joss, "By the goddess, that woman can enunciate."

Or at least, Storm SHOULD be able to enunciate. I'm just glad Halle dropped that ludicrous faux African accent from the first film.

Why is this woman an Oscar winner again? I always say that anyone who has sex with Billy Bob Thornton deserves an award, but this isn't exactly what I meant.

Okay, rant over.

Sure, if they'd handled the character right. But Cyclops was team leader for much longer, had the least screen-time in the previouse films, and is essentially just a cameo in this.

Storm being the central chacracter has little to do with the comics, and everything to do with Ms. Berry and her gold statue.

And I'm still just irked that in a movie that involved Dark Pheonix, the love story in the film is between Storm and Wolverine (who never got together) and Iceman and Kitty (ditto). They should have done Kitty and Collossus at least.

I think Galactus would work in a FF movie, because, like you said, FF has a more cosmic vibe to it. And, according to the press release about re-hiring the writers and director of FF1 to do FF2, they are useing the Galactus/Silver Surfer storyline for FF2.

That said, I thought the first one was pretty weak. Not terrible, but a wasted opprotunity, IMO. They had better have some really killer trailers before I'm paying to see a sequel to that one.
