for a follow-up to my BSG question (which has sparked some controversy between the 70s series and the sci-fi series fans), how do you guys think farscape holds as a firefly fix?

I may get rotten fruit thrown at me for this...
It won't work as a fix for me, not a jot. I watched Farscape before I knew Firefly and was decently entertained, but I had to talk myself out of being annoyed by many things. Something I'm used to doing, because sci-fi TV series have always had those gorram irritating things.
Nowadays, Firefly and BSG have proven that TV sci-fi can be entirely watchable, beginning to end, without significant amounts of eye-rolling.
I just can't handle any other TV sci-fi.

Farscape is an incredible show. I highly recommend it. Doesn't really have too much in common with Firefly, other than the sci-fi setting, but it's a hell of a fun show.
You have to have a bit of a tolerance for the surreal, as their plots get a bit "out there" at times. And you have to have a very high tolerance for muppets, but it has some great characters who evolve a great deal over time, along with some great effects and very entertaining storylines.
And IMO, next to Darth Vader, Scorpius is about the coolest villain in sci-fi.

Scorpius Rocks.
And Ben Browder is serious competition for Nathan.
The only downside to Farscape is that unless you see it from the beginning, it's hard to get. Firefly's a lot easier to hop in the middle of.

OK, I agree with that. I'll watch any episode Scorpius is in!

But it has no middle, just a beginning that ends!

Good point, that. I actually started watching Farscape at the beginning of the 3rd year, but I was up to speed after just a few episodes.
I'm guessing, had Firefly been allowed to continue, it would be just as hard to jump-in, given the track record of Joss' previous shows.

i watch just about any thing related to scifi... i thought Farscape was really brilliant at first, with all the Henson co. characters...
as the series progressed it lost me a bit, but i would tune in to watch Chiana...
i really can't see Farscape as a replacement for Firefly cause they're so different, but there were some outstanding episodes of Farscape and i will continue to watch it in rerunville...
what i don't understand, is why the SciFi channel can't bankroll another Firefly series...i mean they show Stargate like a billion times a week....and that show stinks (sorry SG1 fans...just my opinion...) Firefly is so unlike anything in scifi... I keep looking for the really good scifi programs...ok, like the best scifi movie i can think of was Blade Runner - the first Alien was very good...
TV shows are really lame most of the time - i guess that's why Firefly made such an impression - it's just so good...
ok...after the rant, to answer your question...Farscape can't replace Firefly...for me anyway...
not that there's anything wrong with that...
...and we all shine on...

I never could get in to Farscape. It was OK, but something never really clicked with me. It is worth trying though...everyone likes something different.

Same old story, it's not the quality, it's the ratings.
Especially with a channel like SciFi, who cancelled Farscape after the 4th season, even though they had already greenlit and publicly announced season 5. Why? Because it slipped from 1st to frelling 2nd in their ratings.
