You've said Firefly was your best experience of working on TV. Why?

Because we knew what the show was about from the first frame. Sometimes when you go back and look at shows, it's not always clear what's going on. There was also an extraordinary energy about the cast which made shooting a lot easier. Everyone on set was really happy about the work they were doing and that's rare.

The Love for this story shone thru the screen to us the fans! I will hold out hope for a sequel to either Firefly or Serenity. I can only hope that DVD sales keep increasing.

Does any one know where the sales stand? And at what dollar amount is needed?

Also, I think the DVD sales will at least be enough to get someone's attention. Universal is bothering to release Serenity as one of their first HD-DVD movies. That says something to me.

Maybe we'll at least get a TV movie which would later be released on DVD. I really don't feel like the franchise is at an end yet.

Hey there fello travelers.. after Firefly was cancelled nobody gave a snowball's chance in HELL that Serenity would see the light of, well the cinema... and need I remind you of THAT result????

so... when asked Joss was in a half empty mood.. tomorrow will be a half full.. but for the Browncoats who Done the impossible.. I think we ALL know what the future holds.. it's just a matter of WHEN not IF...

so me, I hunkering down here with FollowMal and everyone else.. check the cartridges and Jayne's swingin'... well, you know.. and we'll hold til Mal gets back...

That is the saddest thing that Joss has ever said. Maybe that is what truly separates people. Those that believe that we are ultimately alone and those that don't. I'm of the latter and Joss is of the former.

According to Universal execs it still may not be enough for them to wager on a costly sequel, even though Whedon brought this one in at $1 million under its original projected cost of $40 million.

So kids, perhaps, like Universal and Joss Whedon, we need to start crossing all our fingers for a sequel and maybe, just maybe, like the studio coming out of the red, Serenity Part 2 can come out on the big screen.

I think the classic example, correct me if you have a better one, was the original Austin Powers movie. The film did ok (and as I recall had one heck of a marketing campaign), but no one thought there would ever be a sequel. Turns out there was a huge audience, teenage boys -- might as well be upfront about it -- and the combined DVD sales/rentals convinced the studio to make another. And as well all know, both sequels were huge money-makers. If the sales numbers/rentals given in the posting above hold, I think the odds of some form of sequel are good. I don't hold out much hope for a return of Firefly, as such, Josh seems determined to move on, but "Serenity II: the Revenge" or some such thing, or a series of mini-series, if that statement makes sense, are real possibilities.
The economics of the movie industry are rapidly shifting -- away from traditional B.O. to DVD related numbers. Serenity will likely catch the wave and I think will be one of the first films (?), story-sagss (?) (I'm looking for a word and can't quite find it) to do so, continuing in a variety of media. This future ain't perfect, but it is not hopeless either and probably as good as we are likely to get.

Yeah, but I must admit, I was depressed all day. It's not good news to wake up to.

After all the work I've done the past few months converting people, and introducing them to the 'verse, when they had never even heard about it, I liked to think that I was making a difference. Hopefully in the long run, I have and will continue to do so, but let's hope we get some encouraging news for a change that comes from a credible source.

Don't give up Jayhawk, we will get news, we just have to wait a bit longer.

If you look back at the old threads on this board the people who loved the show when it got cancelled didn't have a hope in hell of getting the DVD's and a BDM. And look what happened. This crew and idea is something rare.... people fall in love with it. We have to have faith that there will be more fallin' in love and they will recruit and on and on it goes. I have greeted lots of new folks lately. It's workin;.

I agree with Follow. And Joss said it too. The cast LOVED MAKING THIS 'VERSE and it came through, and it's that love we are feeling everytime we slip in those disks.

This is why it will be back, in some form, and we browncoats will hold. After all, as someone above said, it's what we seem to do best!

Yeah, but it sure would be nice to have some GRENADES, dontcha think? :)

For me, based on absolutely nothing but a pie-in-the-sky number, I'd think $100 million would get a studio's attention. Let's face it, as "investments" go, getting a 2-to-1 return on your dollar ain't a bad take at all. And I'd be surprised if Serenity didn't hit pretty close to $100 million by the time the DVD is released and sales are tallied worldwide. And movies that hit $100 million in sales tend to get noticed... sometimes because they cost $200 million to make, but that's not the case here. ;)

Meanwhile, we hold, we buy the Serenity DVD, the Shiny Edition DVD with new extras (if it really does come out), the officially licensed merchandise (wish they'd come out with MORE of that, though. More would be better), and even the un-licensed merchandise (just to keep spreading the word). And we keep on going with our own word-of-mouth campaign. And we keep passing around the Serenity and Firefly disks. It's a rare person who watches the Firefly disks and DOESN'T become a fan!
