Saturday, February 25, 2006 saw the passing of screen and stage legend Darren McGavin. Most notably known for portraying Carl Kolchak in "The Night Stalker", its tele-film sequel "The Night Strangler" and the tv series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker".

I just watched The Night Stalker all day on SciFi last week (home sick). Very 70's, but you could see the seeds of X-Files and "modern" horror. Here's to you, Darren.

I loved watching "The Night Stalker" when I was younger! I was a complete wimp when it came to scary shows, but I loved that one nonetheless. No one but Darren McGavin could be Kolchak, no matter how many times they try to remake it.

As soon as I heard about his death, I asked, "Who will stop the monsters now?"

This is sad news. I clearly remember watching the tv movies when I as young. and then I was thrilled when SCIFI started running the series. I broke down an bought the series on DVD. Night Stalker and Firefly have permanent spots in 5 disc changer.

And you have to love a man that proudly displays a leg lamp in the living room.
