In what order should I infect...I mean introduce Firefly to my family this weekend?

I want to go with the movie first, then the series, but I was thinking maybe they'd be more attatched to the characters if shown the series first. As far as the series is concerned, I was entertaining thoughts on starting with "Out of gas".

How would you?

Hmmm... Well I saw the movie then the series. But I wish I'd seen the series before I'd seen the movie.

I say the series, I think they'd feel more comfortable with being a BC if they saw the series then the movie.

Either Out of Gas or Our Mrs. Reynolds...

Both newbies can get big kicks out of them without really knowing the characters.

Personally, I believe in doing things in order, so that would mean series first, starting with the pilot. But that's just the way I am.

That is a trouble-some question.

Personally, I would start with Serenity (episode not movie). It introduces everyone just so.

Point of fact, the wife didn't really like the series when she watched it when I was on TV (No I don't understand either). But, after watching them in there proper order, she has come to love the series.

If you do this, the movie will have more meaning for them. This is both good and bad. They will of course be itching for the movie, but might not like what they find. Remember, many Browncoats aren't that fond of the movie.

Conversely, if you show the movie first, they won't get some of what's in it. This might not matter as look at all the new recruits we keep getting (Not to mention that they can just watch it again after they see there series).

This could be good, it could be bad. If they are the type of people to keep expecting the action driven style of the movie, they might not like the character driven series.

It really depends on what type of people your family is. You're going to have to be devious in planning you attack

But, I would certainly not start with "Out of Gas". IMO, that episode gets it punch from the fact that we have gotten to know and love the characters. If the viewer doesn't know, nor has become attached to the characters, a lot of the punch of that episode will go flying out the window.

At any rate, that my 2 cents.

Start with the pilot because it introduces the viewer to the ship's layout and also to the characters. And it's hard to understand the whole business about River without having her in the box to begin with.
After that I watched all the eps in order, but I think that if Out of Gas had been second that would have helped a lot.

I'm very linear in my approach to things, so... the series first, starting with the two part pilot (Serenity, not the train job).

This is how I saw it and I was intrigued by the dialogue (We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty!) and I was hooked when Jayne is looking through the infirmary window while Simon's operates on Kaylee.

Yeah after you meantioned that Out of Gas delivers a 'punch' I just remember watching the show.... And worrying the crap out of myself.

I was so curious as to why Mal was hurt... Where were the others? They all alive? Is Mal gunna live?

And Geez is was soooo touching how the characters communicate with Mal!

And the entire episode came to you in flashbacks. It was so hard to watch! But if it was my first time watching the entire series starting from Out of Gas I'd be like.... Meh... I hope this guy with the bullet wound dies.

there is no question. the pilot MUST be viewed first. the show is too complex to jump into without that proper introduction.
