Actually, british politeness works inversely to the degree to which we hate someone, snooty cab drivers and parking tickets people and drunks in resurants get the utmost respect (even if it is tinged with sarcasm)on the other hand I can call my dad the old bastard in the same way your average five year old would yell Daddy!
