Villains that Would Return if the Series Continued

Niska would likely have a personal grudge against the Serenity crew (as opposed to against Mal personally).

IIRC Whedon confirmed that Early survived, and he's far too cool a character to waste on a one-shot.

I feel that the BlueHands were intended to be an ongoing thing, so they would almost certainly have reappeared.

And Badger's not evil. He's a businessman (not unlike Fanty & Mingo).

In fact, if we'd had time, I can well imagine our loveable crew getting caught in a turf war between Badger and the twins. As an interesting little non-cliché, we have no great love for either side.

I swear I read somewhere a quote from Joss saying that Jubal Early was definitely still around somewhere, making me think he'd show up again in future incarnations of the 'verse.

Well yea, she did a bit. :) But that was before Mal explained how he expected to be treated in the future and then chose not to kill her. I think she has to figure not messing with Mal is in her best interest.

I often imagined Early getting somehow, miraculously, picked up by the S.S. Walden (OOG). Then bringing havoc back to the crew and shedding a little more light on Book.

After the movie… not so much now

It actually wasn't until I watched War Stories the third time that I realized Niska had clearly gotten away (I dunno why this escaped me the first two times). And, you never saw Early die; and in show terms, that means he's coming back.

The more interesting characters, I think, will be the 'incidental' villains--the ones who weren't really bad guys, but the crew just got in their way. That'd be Atherton and Boss Higgins, of course; seeing them come back all humiliated and looking for retribution would make for some interesting times.
