just another new recruit signing on for my browncoat. i caught a few episodes on the fox run, then saw three during the sci-fi showing this summer. missed the movie in the theater, but after a friend mentioned it in a discussion about storyteller (we are both amateur writers with minor published works, i picked up the dvd, and was simply blown away. ordered the series, and am making myself watch only one episode a day to prolong the pleasure.
i have an unusual perspective, i suppose, in that i am a teacher and an ordained minister, so i find the dynamic of book and mal's discussion of faith interesting, along with many other points. not all christians, in fact most, are narrow minded and paranoid, and i would think that this is the perfect place to find people who understand the freedom to both believe and think. look forward to many wonderful debates, it already feels like home. just keep flying 'cause it will be enough.

I think you will like it here, this is a wonderful place and you WILL have lively conversations and debates. We're kinda good at that.

howdy, mirthmaster. nothing makes a browncoat's day shiny like another recruit to help hold the line ;p

if you haven't yet, I highly recommend tracking down the extended gag reel. (lot of extra stuff that didn't end up making it to the DVD version) a more organized 'coat than I ought to be able to point you in the right direction, though I didn't have much trouble tracking it down on google.

keep the faith, spread the word, and we'll all be holding when Mal finally gets back.

oh... and I believe there's some sort of hot cheese around here somewhere, help yourself ;p

I always want every new person to know that the only way to get more is to get more people interested (and buying the DVDs, but those two things go hand in hand.) So if you like the show or the movie spread the word.

Every time I read a post from a 'newbie', I smile. Welcome aboard. As one who is an amateur writer, I'd think you'd enjoy the many levels which can be found in Firefly/Serenity. Hope ya see the rest of the series episodes before too long, if ya haven't already bought the DVD

thanks one and all, the coat fits and the line will hold. i have enjoyed following many discussions here, and i hope to make a shiny contribution. by the way, love that line from "heart of gold", which was one of the episodes i caught on sci-fi.
i am by way of being a bit of a tolkien scholar, as well as a student of the civil war, living in the south. i am truly amazed at how joss combines the element of "hopeless hope" that i find in both of these studies, the idea that courage is not dependent on success or surrounding events, but on doing what is right in the circumstances you are in at the moment. i have been working on a novel for some time addressing that concept, and watching the dynamics of firefly has enhanced my thinking process.

if your hand touches metal, i swear, by my pretty flowered bonnet, i will end you.
