Kaylee has no chance 1v1 with Leia. Remember when they rescued Mal from Niska? She wouldn't put a fist up.
Remember when Kaylee simply blew away the Reavers who were up high and to the left? The argument you made would work and i would agree wholeheartedly were it not for the fact that the movie Serenity exists.
But now we know that Kaylee can kill people, and more importantly she has a gun that shoots straight and shoots fast. That puts Leia in the ground right there.
When it comes to hand to hand, we've not seen Kaylee do it, but we have seen (a very little bit of) Leia, and all things considered I think any mechanic can probably beat her.

Again I am forced to ask, did you see Serenity?
I mean come on. We can pick and choose all we want but if you don't look at the whole picture why bother with a hypothetical at all? If you are not going to think about it why not just start a topic called, "Say 'Leia'," or, if you lean the other way, "Say 'Kaylee'"?

Did you see I, Robot? Kaylee was like Susan Calvin, she practically fired with her eyes closed.

But she hit them, more to the point we know that she fires with greater accuracy than Leia (scary considering how bad that makes Leia) and even if she did miss 90% of the time she could still hit Leia repeatedly before Leia could fire a second round. (Let's face it, with Leia the first would miss.) Her gun is better, and in this case that's more important.

Alright, I'll concede the point (assuming Kaylee has the proper motivation to actually fire) of firearms. What about hand to hand? I can't remember any Leia hand-to-hand combat. Then again, I can't remember any Kaylee hand to hand either. My instinct tells me Leia would win, even against a wrench. I can't see Kaylee getting her body behind a blow.
However, I think the more important question is:
Which character would WANT Leia to kick his/her ass?
My answer: Jubal Early. He seems the type. Probably Wash, too.

I'll have to double check it but I seem to remember that Leia had (very little but) very, very unimpressive hand to hand after she strangled Jabba.
Kaylee never has had any.
Really it hits me like this, Leia is two things: a diplomat and a leader. Kaylee is a mechanic. Just going on those which do you think would win? Kaylee ain't weak.

Are we talking about Leia circa the Galactic Civil War (i.e., the movies), the Thrawn Trilogy (New Republic Minister of State), the Dark Empire comics (where she fought Dark-Luke to a standstill while pregnant), the Corellian Trilogy (where she took Luke apart in front of witnesses), the New Rebellion (where she defeated a mutant Force-wielding Hutt twice her size), the NJO era (older and slower, but still frighteningly lethal), or the Dark Nest trilogy (as apprentice to Saba Sebatyne)?
'Course, I'd be more interested in a battle of dumbass/badass sarcasm between Jayne and Master Sebatyne. Saba's my new favourite Star Wars character.
