River's Dance in Safe

Just got the Firefly soundtrack in the mail today, and as I'm jacked into the computer and my headphones only go far, I'm pretty much immobilized and scanning through the threads here. (Well, it's not like I can stop the CD or anything :)

Listening to the track from that scene where she's doing her dance number, I'm remembering that that always struck me as one of the more powerful scenes in the series (and boy howdy, there's plenty of those to go around.)

I always get kind of misty-eyed watching that part, though. Kind of a combination of great cinematography going along real well with some excellent composing. Gets me every time, and it's one of the few scenes in the series where you get to see River as her true self, and just happy let herself loose in the moment. ("She always did love to dance.")

Anyways, like I said, I'm sort of stuck here in front of the computer until the CD play out, so sorry to be taking up the bandwidth with this. Anyone else get all choked up in that scene, though? Honestly, there are tears ;p

Didn't choke up, but yeah, it was a great scene. Outside of her laughing at the stars, probably her happiest moment in the whole show. It moved her out of the original, one-dimensional, crazy-chick persona for good, for me anyway, especially after she talks with Simon later.

I heard the religious right say that if you play the video of her dancing backwards, she dances out the word "Satan" with her feet.

Just what I heard.

It was a great scene--a beautiful scene. Just to glimpse the pre-tampered River was a nice experience...

No tears but close enough :þ

I gather the soundtrack is shiny?

*cracks the heck up* Nicely done, Khyron. I thought I noticed that, too, but I'd chalked it up to my DVD being possessed.

After all, I sure didn't tell it to play backwards.
