Why a BDM sequel on sci-fi channel shouldn't happen!

well before i get flamed like crazy let me explain: there is nothing i would love more than a sequel to the BDM (except maybe to have the series flying again), but here's the problem i have. the special effects on sci-fi channel movies blows monkey 
i would do anything to get more stories from the verse, but if it's gonna look like crap is it really worth it? do we really want a sub-par product, just so we get something. i would much rather have it in comic form where anything can happen, or direct to dvd w/a decent budget, any thing except an ugly looking shell of what we all love.

I really don't care at all about the special effects. I just want the characters together and more stories from the verse. To me it is this group of special actors that make it work so well and not the effects.

Of course, this could happen with comic books and other ways, but another movie would be the shiniest option.

Given that the Sci-Fi channel is a pay-only option here in the UK, which means that much of the UK (myself included) did not even have the opportunity to see the first series, I would much rather it was a 'proper' movie.

i totaly understand that point and i agree, but if the effects are not as good it could make the whole thing feel off in some way.

Gotta be kidding me. Zoic are the ones that did the visual effects for Firefly and Serenity, they also do Battlestar Galactica.
Have you seen some of the Galactica effects lately, especially in the second half of season two, absolutely stellar. If they can afford beautiful stuff like that in every single episode of BSG, we can have a few nice shots in the Big Damn Sequel.
Also got to remember that Zoic has a lot of the assets from the series and movie to use, so there will be definate costs saved as there won't need to be as much pre-production design work. They have the ships, the universe style, lots of stuff to use from the BDM in their bag of tricks.
If its as good as Zoic's Firefly stuff, I'll be damn happy.

The Sci-Fi Channel referred to in the post that started this thread is the U. S. cable station, which is owned by NBC/Universal, which is also the parent company of Universal studios which produced the BDM.

And the reason that BG looks as good as it does is because that show has a higher budget than most SFC shows, due to the fact it is a joint production between SFC and Sky One. Now if the same sort of deal could be made for a Firefly/Serenity series revival, that would be great.

Well keep dreaming if you think a sequel will come to theaters. I don't think Universal or any company will take a chance.
I think the Sci-Fi channel is perfect for a sequel. The fx wouldn't be as good as Serenity's but probably closer to Firefly. You can do great fx with not a lot of $$$.
Mal would kick Han Solo's ass.

You're just looking at their track records on movies, though (which, yeah, ain't lookin' too good).
Firefly as a miniseries or regular TV series on Sci-Fi could work out quite well--just like Farscape, SG-1, Atlantis (yeah I like both), etc. The effects would be just as good as the original season.
Plus which, I think it'd be more profitable as a miniseries or regular series than a made-for-TV movie anyway. KF

I agree with you. A sci-fi channel movie would get a fraction of the budget of Serenity. A few flying scenes and they'd be spent out, forget another big space battle.
Although I do agree about Zoic having a lot of the assets from the series and movie to use. Not sure exactly how much that would save.
Also, I can't see all the cast returning for a sci-fo channel movie. And how much would that ??
