I don't know if anyone will know what I am speaking of here. (I wonder, is this what it feels like to be obssessed?). I was watching a few of my favorite firefly episodes with my wife yesterday (Ariel and objects in space) when I noticed something similar. In "Ariel" River rambles on about someone coming down the chimney and taking away the shiny presents (and some other cryptic dialog about the yule-tide). At first I thought this was River just being River about the boys in blue coming after her. But when I watched "Objects in Space" I noticed that Early says to Kaylee that he may have "come down the chimney to give presents...". Do these things have something in commen, or am I reading to much in to this?

Sounds like Whedon.

Also, in Trash, watch carefully. You'll see Early's ship zoom past when Mal looks out the window.

I didn't notice either of those! Very interesting, and nice catch! Now, I have to go, for I must watch all these episodes and experience it for myself!

I always took it to be relevant to Jayne's betrayal at Ariel(something about not looking in the closet its greedy seemed to be directly aimed at him) but now that you mention it that way I doubt it was coincidence. Nicely done, MalforPresident. You should post the thought over in the episode analysis.
Everytime I see or some else points out things like this I can't help but marvel at how great a show this was and how well written. Damn, I hate fox.

I agree with the first part:

Jayne turned them in, and expected his reward, but it never came; much like them taking the presents away at christmas.

I don't think that river and early using the same source for their metaphores hints at any actual connection or premonition.

Not to mention that being a "reader" does not make River a "precog."

Unless, of course, Jubal was closer than you think to Simon and River on Ariel. How'd he pick up their "scent" there unless he somehow tapped into the transmissions to the "hands of blue" team or had a mole in the Hospital security staff? Remember, River's "reading" capabilities isn't limited to one person at a time but comes in from every direction (that's been inferred more than once in the show). She got a whif of Jubal, just enough to know that he was chasing them.

A wonderful excuse to indulge in specific eps instead of just randomly picking each day and hey, I have to watch ALL THREE of them, just in case I miss something. * she says gleefully!*

Great observation!!! I had never thought of that, although I have always believed that everything River says is extremely important and not just her mind blabbering. I've been able to interperate most of her lines, but some of them still escape me.

Until MalforPresident pointed that inference out I had always thought it pertained specifically to Jayne, but now I believe it was meant for Jubal first and then to Jayne (Don't look in the closet, it's greedy). Most of the lines she says in Ariel escape me.

"We're going backwards...up the down slide." I take that to mean that Simon was going about getting his information the wrong way. He found out that they had stripped her amigdala and he assumed they did that so she could be a better reader, so she could feel everything, when in actuallity they stripped it so she would have "no-conscience" that might hinder her being an Alliance assisin. I'm fairly certain that Jubal Early had a very underdeveloped amigdala.

But I'm still confused about the "Your toes are in the sand"....I kinda expacted her to say "you've got your HEAD in the sand".

Did you know that Maralyn Monroe had webbed feet? That's why you never see a picture of her feet. Even when they did a beach shot...she buried her toes in the sand.
