Firefly is dead - the"people" at fox killed it.
But Serenity isn't!!!

I have some questions and since I'm new online
if they have been asked/answered before please bear with me.

Why is a Firefly fanbase, a loved movie -if not a "runaway hit" - why is all this potential being wasted -- {forgive me - but a two hour movie cannot/willnot do Joss's characters Justice - they are so multifaceted} and not being re-tooled as a seriesthat does justice to his creation ???

Why hasn't the Si Fi Channel or SHowtime
picked this up?

Sci Fi aired the Firefly series so it seems like
a "good home" for a new series

Look at Stargate - Ok movie - great series
10 years running!

I truly believe that Serenity has even more potential --

GOod Series (killed too early), Good movie,
Solid fanbase)

Why is this potential being wasted???

These are questions we all have, but recently (past month or so) we have had reason to think...something is going to happen. With the CW network launching, the Firefly Season 2 Project (Ace Underhill...that name still cracks me up), and most importantly the continuing DVD sales, things haven't looked so promising since the anouncement of the movie.

As I have said before, I believe there are TV execs out there just waiting for the "final" numbers of Serenity (and BDS) sales...someone will pick it up...the money is too good.

Make no mistake, Firefly is not dead. If it were dead, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Firefly is just sleeping...and we will all be here when she wakes up.

If you'll allow me to get poetical...

We stand on the edge of a precipice, our adventure grounded, our information limited. If nothing changes, nothing will change, and Serenity will be lost to us. And yet above that precipice lies hope, in the sky lies a second season, a second movie, anything... all we have to do is fly. Just gotta do the impossible, that'll make us mighty.

And then someday...someday soon!...Browncoats all over the Earth can rise up in glory shouting;

"We wouldn't stay down!"
"We have won the war and restored glory and honor to the 'verse!"

"Welcome back Firefly!"

I can hear them now and it is beautiful!

Everyone just keep the faith!

You hang in there, bud. Here, in the Netherlands, they're pre-ordering the Sereninty DVD several months before its even available (good thing I got me the NTSC Retail DVD from the States). It's gonna sell like crazy, believe you me! And nobody will be able to ignore those numbers! Not unless they're irretrievably stupid or congenitally insane, that is.

Keep in mind you ARE referring to the people who are in the same line of work as the people who originally cancelled the show.

Nonetheless... DVD comes out on the 8th here in Aus, and from what I've asked around, there has been a decent chunk of preorders.

A lot can be said on why the show was canceled (and already has been said, of course). Bottom-line? I think they simply made a mistake, and scrubbed it before really giving it a chance. Also, Serenity (its theatrical release) was overall poorly marketed; and its DVD sales, as far as I understand things, have picked up in great numbers, simply by word of mouth (just goes to show that what we're doing here really does make a difference, btw.)

Since the brass is always interested in their own bottom-line, wich is making money, I really think they will be unable to ignore the Serenity sales (and the FireFly boxes, naturally), unless .., well, I offered some alternatives. :)
