LOTS of things make me feel old. I certainly remember all of the aforementioned cartoons (I burned a theme song cd just for the cartoons of the 80's and early 90's...because everyone should have a copy of the Heathcliff theme song, etc. LOL).
- Remembering a time before cds...when you would hold a boom box up to the radio to record a song.
- Remembering when Atari was the hottest video game system around and the Apple II was revolutionary.
- Remembering when My Little Ponies, Care Bears, and Strawberry Shortcake had their first run...not this new crap. When do Jem and She-Ra come back???
- Saying things like "...and knowing is half the battle", and getting strange looks because of it.
- Sarah Michelle Gellar and Michelle Trachtenberg
on All My Children in 1993, before they were Whedon girls
- Lastly, I know it's not as awe-inspiring as it could be, but the #1 thing that makes me feel old is that my 10 year high school reunion is this year. When did I get old enough to be 27?!?

Going to see my doctor and thinking he's just a kid.
Trying to talk about the Vietnam War to a bunch of fully-grown-up professionals and getting blank stares.
Records, made of vinyl. Jerry Vale. Katarina Valenti. The Brothers Four.
Going to any campus in town and thinking that all those people who think they are REALLY grown up still have a lot to learn!
Becoming a curmudgeonly grouch.
My knees, my shoulder, and my cholesterol.
Actually looking forward to retirement.
Discos- remember them? With mirror-balls and plexiglass floors with choreagraphed lights shining thru them.
Realizing that parents are only people, and they can f*ck up big-time... and forgiving them for it.
Looking at my daughter and calculating how old I'll be when she's thirty!
Gunsmoke- ON RADIO!

Please don't think they give a shit.

Happened to me today on this board when somebody said the series was cancelled FOUR years ago. Still makes me want to cry and that's a LONG time to mourn a TV show.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Appears they've cancelled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"
"Ain't we just."
pinky and the brain! animaniacs! i used to watch "twin peaks" and "dark shadows" too...
i was born the year star wars came out but i grew up watching it... i remember thinking "enter the sandman" was so awesome. and i remember the *moment* nine inch nails' "pretty hate machine" hit mtv. i went to see trent for the first time in concert this last year and i felt old. i'm not even thirty yet. don't you think that living in a youth-obsessed culture where actresses have a shelf-life of 15 - 30 has something to do with this too?
i feel old, but i know i'm not. but i feel it, especially when i go see movies at the theatre by my house. i know i wore more clothes than that when i was 13, dammit.
How about the original Superman TV show?
The Banana Splits, Speed Buggy, Space 1999.
I ashamed to admit listening to the Bay City Rollers...
The Six Million Dollar Man. Evil Knievel.
But what makes me feel old is having a parent teacher meeting for my little girls and my wife realizing she baby-sat the teacher...
By your own admission you were 6 yrs old in 1969, so how in HELL can you have any sort of opinion or knowledge of fashion worldwide at that time? Eh? I visited friends in England in 1969, from my home in Michigan, and attended Royal Albert Hall to see Led Zeppelin. I also went to many concerts in and around the Detroit area, Rolling Stones, more Led Zep, Cream, etc., and was vitally interested in observing fashion, because it was part of my job. So when I said hip huggers were the fashion rage at that time, that is exactly what I meant.
Next time it won't be a loud buzzer, it'll be the hook to drag you off stage for running your lip.
And no, I'm not very nice, not when someone contradicts me without any FACTS.
Facts?
Oh Gorram, another "I own the 60s nut!"
My ego is not involved here, but it appears yours is, so I will indulge you. You actually sound like you are gonna cry all over this! LOL!
I was born in 1962, and about time 1969 rolled around I was 7 Earth years old. At seven, I was very much aware of what the fashion was...seeing that it was pushed in my face by everyone and television. You may have been a silly bunny at seven years old, but not myself. I remember what people wore.
So, you mean to tell me you was whoring yourself up (fashion-wise) in the late 60s early 70s? Shame on you, you draft-dodging, weed smoking pinko. LOL!
I'm GLAD I wasnt 18 during the 60s...the 70s was my decade and it was a stupid one at that, but at least it got us some distance away from the 60s, AND the only good thing about the 70s was Led Zepplin, so through all your whining, I'll agree with that, but the Rolling Stones? You need some serious help.
People in my area were dressed sensibly and the true fashions of the decadent world didnt really show up in our prefect community until around 1972, which by the way I was fully self-aware, and also whoring myself up in the latest fashions like everyone else, but hip-huggers was not around very much if not at all.
The hip-huggers that did exist look nothing like what is being passed for hip-huggers today, even you should know that. but overall, my perfect little Donna Reed community wouldnt go for anything too outlandish.
My point to all of this is that a lot of the styles now are very much different than what I was brought up with. I didnt have to privilge like you of growing up in a dirty, socially-engineered, drug and crime infested city like yourself, so I guess you got to see more styles and fashion earlier than myself....lucky you, but I still to this day think earrings on a guy looks stupid.
So you did all this flying around in the 60s huh? Finally I can call someone "Old Fart" and get away with it.
I still to this day cannot listen to the Banna Splits song without wanting to throw up! I loved the 6 million Dollar man and The bionic Woman...matter of fact I think the Bionic woman became my favorite, but I know if I watched it now, I would think it was so stupid.
I still watch Space 1999 on DVD!
River3213:
My little test was a complete success. You really do add precious little to nothing to these discussions, as someone on another string accused you of, recently. I thought they might have been mistaken, but I was wrong. Yep, Toledo and Ann Arbor sure were drug and crime-infested cities in the late 1960s.
Please step back and reread some of your postings and you might learn something. FYI, I was not draft-dodging at age 30. I was, however, anything but provincial, as you indicate you were. Whoring it up? Hardly. EVERYONE dressed like that, which again you can't know unless you have done some serious research on STYLES of that age. I suspect you were raised in a nunnery, they way you talk.
And yes, earrings on guys do look stupid.
And so endeth my discussions with you, River3213, now and forever.
