Hey, I've been writing this fanfic script, Serenity: Sundown, and I've come to a point where I'm not sure what Mal would do. So I'm going to ask everyone who reads this for their thoughts and reasoning.

If Mal were put in a position to start another war, would he?

or would he think of the people who are just trying to live their lives and recuperate from the old one and turn away.

um, I don't think so. He only gets into trouble by
mistake. War's a whole hell of a lot of trouble.
(Can we say hell around here?)

I think he would if it was for the right reason, but he usually does seem to get himself into trouble by accident.

We can see, from Serenity, that he took the initiative to create trouble for himself because of what he believed to be right.

If he had that same reasoning, I could see him doing many a great thing.

****SPOILER IN THIS POST****
Skip me if you haven't seen the movie.

I think if a war broke out again, I think Mal would join it if he knew the Alliance wouldn't crush everyone like insects.

But I'm inclined to say I don't think he'd start it himself. Not in a whole "We MUST REBEL NOW!" demagogue kinda way.

Mal just wants to let bygones be bygones nowadays. He's lost a lotta people in war (his men in Serenity Valley, and his contacts, Book and Wash in the movie).

"War's long done. We're all just folk now," and "I got no need to beat you. I just wanna go on my way," are statements that basically say, I ain't looking for trouble. I'm just making do in the 'verse that exists cause the Browncoats didn't get what they want.

Mal fights so hard in Serenity cause the Alliance and all the games around River target -him- and -his crew-, and he fights back for them. It's a retaliation thing. You messed with me and mine, now you're gonna clean up this mess. He fights so hard to get clear of the Miranda mess, but I don't think he cares to topple the Alliance (anymore). He knows he can't take 'em on. He doesn't have to obey 'em, or like em, or follow their lead on every world.

But my overall gut feeling is he wouldn't bring together people and say, "We're gonna attack the Alliance again and try and be free."

I don't think Mal would intentionally start a war. Though if one were started around him, I think Mal would volunteer like he did before. Though the war would have to be for or against something he really beleives in to volunteer for either side.

I don't think so. Mal has a tendancy to back away from serious trouble unless there are extraordinary circumstances involved. I guess it would all depend on the reasons.

I agree with everyone else, he would definitely not start a war.

Joining in on stirring war efforts around him would highly depend on a couple of factors:

How likely is success? Mal would not participate in something hopeless that would end in another Serenity Valley.

Who is fighting, and how? If some new Independent faction started employing very reprehensible methods (targetting Alliance civillians) he would not take part in that.

How are things going on Serenity? If the family is relatives safe and stable, I don't think Mal would want to risk losing that. If things are rocky and falling apart, he might.

Overall I don't think he would volunteer for actual fighting again, but for something more subtle and safe in the background. Smuggling weapons, spreading information, etc.

No way he'd start a war...well, not on purpose. Releasing the Miranda/Pax information could definitly have started a war, but I don't think Mal would actively try to drum up an army.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Nah, Mal would never start a war. He's the kinda guy that likes to fly under the radar. Pretty much needed in his line of work, too. Like the lady says:

Inara: You're lost in the woods. We all are. Even the captain. The only difference is, he likes it that way.

No; definite no; Mal would not start a war... He'd finish one, though.
