Ok, as I was saying...

I need to know where everything goes when you get squished, so next time you're in a cheeky mood, doing that measurment thing will help a lot.

its only your bust waist and hip measurements, nothing else changes much, so things like length and shoulder straps can be done without (which is good, cause things like that need a helper)

Also if you could observe yourself standing when your relaxed, see what your natural posture is it would help.

How would I measure for shoulder straps?

I can tell you this: I stand up pretty straight, but I have sloping shoulders. Like the women in portraits from the 1800s. Those are what my shoulders are like.

Do you want the rest of my measurements now? Cuz I can PM them to you (I am NOT posting them here for everyone to see. Sorry darlings!) Or would you rather wait until you're ready to cut fabric or something and then get them?

Sidenote: I just bought the cutest pair of jeans. They have flowers embroidered down one leg.

uh is it considered a silly post to ask what the heck you are talking about?

as you were saying? You can't start saying, "as you were saying" before you started saying anything.

I assume you are asking where everything goes when you squish into a corset? You want meassurements before putting on a corset and after?

Also why does the title have Serenity in it? I don't remember anyone in a corset during Serenity. I thought I was paying pretty close attention too.

oh I had a pair like that, they had roses picked out in black braid on the outside of the leg, I literally wore that ass out of them (tightpants!)

No, don't post your stats on here, I'll mail you a list of the ones I need and you can reply with it filled in, keeps it nice and organised, I need to look at my notes again (where ever the book they are in has gone!) and make sure i'm not missing any out. I'll mail you when im sorted.

the reason i asked about posture is cause some women stand with their spines 'forward' (hips and shoulders back but stomach forward) and it tends to throw things out a little,the problem is worse in 18th c. corsets, more little parts with bones going in every direction, but it is still best to know in advance for this type.

but if its just the shoulders thing then there no worries, i'll just make the straps a little shorter, and they'll be more adjustable.

You mentiones wearing things under it. from what i can imagine, getting a collarless shirt (i'll find a page that shows you how to make a great period shirt at some point) and wrapping it loosely around you, so that it covers the outside where the top edge of the stomacher is lower means that you don't feel exposed, but it also doesn't cover up the cleavage and neck so much that you look and feel 'trussed up' and strangled.

I've seen corset look great with chinese style stuff as well. these would look good with a collarless shirt with either loose tube sleeve (like on kaylees blue jacket) or even a short kimono sleeve.

the trick is to keep the fabric light, even sheer - top half anyway, butter muslins and even chiffon would be ok, these are reasomably virtuous corsets as far a coverage goes (well, the origionals were designed to stop just under the ah, pointy bits, but i'll make them higher) so you want to avoid bulkyness by keeping what ever you wear under it very minimal.

The simplest skirt i know is basically a square, cut out a hole in the middle, attatch a waist band and et voila! the smaller the square, the shorter the skirt, they'd look great with raw edges and layered.

anyway, now that i've spent tem minute 'teaching grandma to suck eggs' or whatever that saying is, remind me what coloures you wanted again?

I'd like the corset to be in the blue family. I thought, the opposite of your red one.

Not too picky about colour, but it'd be nice to see what the colour would be like so I can match stuff to it when I make a skirt.

When I made my corset, I also made a simple shirt to wear under it and a skirt. All very easy and simple to do with drawstring waistbands and whatnot. But send me patterns, by all means!

ok, silly me, missed the above posts, yeah, it was an additional to another thread (loafers nook new arrivals) I would have kept pming, but those little boxes grow tiresome. so i'm abusing the site for my own ends, i'd have put it elsewhere, but it would attract even more attention amongst the other forums.

I do kind of make custom corsets, i'm making one for Serenity in return for her buying my ticket to the Dragon*con in Atlanta.

I just orderd the boning (stays!, keep forgetting that the word boning caused uncontrollable sniggering in some quaters) but if I have enough, after calculating what I need for the first two, i'll see what I can do.

I'm not comfortable really putting a price on them, the avrage for this type of corset in this country is 250 to 350 pounds. Obviously not going to charge you guys that much, no way near, but I haven't managed to source half the materials yet, so couldn't put an accurate price on cost of materials.

The style i'm makeing is this one

but others styles would be fun, I just need to be able to make a pattern from looking at them, or find a close enough pattern to buy.
