What was the first music record, CD that you bought?

The first record I ever bought was either Ram by Paul and Linda McCartney or Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles (I threw away those stupid cutouts, of course!
). This was about 1971 or 1972. I still have those records today. I would listen to them more often, but Sgt Pepper is worn and Ram is trashed. (If I only knew then what I know now!)
The first CD I bought was Breakfast in America by Supertramp and Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits. Circa 1988. I still listen to them, and of course they are in PERFECT shape.
NEVER bought a cassette album. The quality was inconsistent and averaged somewhere around "bad". (I still have some recordings I made of some of my records when they were new. Maxell UDXL-II, no Dolby, Akai GXC-706D deck. They are still in remarkably good shape, considering that some of them are coming up on 28 years old...)
NEVER had 8 track. Dodged that bullet.

I love Men At Work...I remember playing Lego's with my best friend, Eric (my neighbor) who brought over a couple of records...that was the summer of "Electric Avenue" and ..."what the hell is a vega-mite sandwich"
I miss those innocent days....*sigh*
On the plus side..I have introduced my 14yr old son to some great 70's & 80's....including his new favorite the 1984 movie "Breakin'"

First vinyl ever(bought at a garage sale): Star Wars Soundtrack
First vinyl bought new: Pearl Jam - Vitology
First CD: Last Action Hero soundtrack.
I still have the vinyl records, though mainly as keepsakes since I also have the albums on CD. I'm sure the Thriller casette is somewhere in my mother's garage, but I havn't listened to it in 15 years. The CD I sold ages ago, though I still like the Alice in Chains song on it.

The first vinyl single I ever bought was "Making Your Mind up" by Bucks Fizz (I was 11 at the time).
The first vinyl album was "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. (one of the best albums ever made!)
The first album (cassette) was Wham, Make It Big. (I plead insanity - I was a teenager)
The First CD was Queen Greatest Hits. (I was beginning to replace my cassette collection with CD)

I don’t really remember.
I can only say that the Star Wars theme on 45 was one of my first. I don’t remember where I got it. I just remember being so thrilled to have it, and I listened to it all the time.
Alvin and the Chipmunks country music album might have been my first full length vinyl, but I don’t remember. It was a Christmas gift. We didn’t have money to buy that kind of stuff, so I didn’t own very many albums that I actually would have chosen to own. I just had what people gave me, sometimes as a gift, but mostly just to get rid of it. So when I was in my adolescent phase (10-13), when most other kinds my age were listening to Madonna or Michael Jackson, I was listening to songs like “Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Lone ranger theme,” “Red River Valley,” “The Road and Miles to Dundee,” or “The Town I Loved So Well.”
I was probably the only kid in my school who knew all the words to “Red River Valley” or “the Road and the Miles to Dundee.”
But I had other music too. Stuff by Waylon Jennings, the Eagles, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Jim Reves, Kenny Rogers, John Schneider (the Duke boy)...
For not having actually bought an album I certainly had a large library, come to think of it.
But it was many years before I actually bought an album of my own choosing, and that was Billy Joel's Greatest Hits.
I think I was 30 before I bought or even owned a CD, and that was Garbage.

I can't believe someone else remembered that movie!
funny story..when I was 12 one of our teachers' brothers' had a part in the movie (no-name extra kinda thing) so she got a video right as it was hitting theatres. So for gym class not only did we get to watch the movie..but they also decided to teach us break dancin'.
...so there we all were on our little cardboard squares..all 23 of us white, midwest crackers..learnin' the moves.
..it was the best of times..it was the worst of times....
