On my trip to California this past December, my dad sticks in the Beatles' White Album. And the songs play...as songs tend to do....

Well about the 3rd to last song, I hear the words "Cry, baby, cry. Make your mother sigh." And my brain was like "WHOA! Hey! That's Firefly!!!" When they release the CryBaby in the true-although-not-played-first-episode.

So I was just wondering if anyone else noticed The Beatles' reference in Firefly.

Any takers?

Didn't notice that it was it was a Beatles reference. But it always struck me that Wash was quoting something or referencing something that the other characters would understand. Kinda nifty that Joss stuck in a RW reference.

I have to admit I didn't know what song the line as from, but if you watch the episode with the captions on it says something like "quoting song lyrics".

Glad I finally know what song it is!

Nope, have to admit I didn't notice it was a lyric. But I did get the "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen" line in Aliens. Guess it's my generation's music taste. I recognise AC/DC, and not the Beatles.

Cool.

I know I didn't recgonize it from the Beatles, but it always sounded familar to me. My dad always listened to The Beatles when I was young and I think that is maybe why.

Glad I'm not the only one.

Oh heck.

Yeah, I recognized it. Was a major Beatles fan. Played bass in a rock band, and knew how to play quite a few of them. (McCartney was quite a bassist. Never got much credit for it, but he could stand up to Jones, Entwistle, Bruce, Lee...)

Still play, but not too much rock anymore.

I thought everytone knew The Beatles?!?! Man, what's this world coming to ??

Who're the Beatles? Calm down, I'm kidding.

It's a very interesting statement on history knowledge in 2517. Joss has said that in the future people (mostly in the Core) will know who the Beatles are, but their name will be constantly misspelled.

Detail, man... I'm telling ya, next big thing...

Ok... at least it was noticed in retrospect right?

I must admit that this thread is making me feel a might old. As soon as the words "cry baby, cry" came out, I finished the lyric before Wash did!

I went on to discuss the beauty of a verse where the Beatles are still well-known and appreciated after another 600 years, give or take. Yet another kuddos to King Joss!

If Serenity has led you to the Beatles, then let the Beatles lead you through some of the best music ever made!

(I just found a whack of Beatles' stuff on sale at HMV tonight and bought me Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour and Revolver... up until now, I've been using my vinyl! ...Ok, so maybe I am a touch on the aging side o'life after all.)
