does any one know where i can purchace any of the firefly or farsape season(s)

Both Firefly and Farscape can be purchased on DVD from Amazon.com.

Unfortunately Firefly is only on preorder, but it is supposed to be released December 9 (I believe) so take that as you will.

You can order Farscape (also on Amazon), but my advice is to order the complete season packages rather than the individual collections.

Only season one (complete) is available so far, but season two (complete) is available for preorder and is supposed to be released October 28.

I highly recommend Farscape. I would describe this show as art. Cinematic art. Written art. Dramatic art. It hits all the marks (except for maybe six episodes in season one - good episodes but not art.)

Firefly is (of course) an equally astonishing show, but it never got the chance (yet) to reach the same level of quality that Farscape did. Which is a crime.

Anyway, I am confident that both shows are not dead, and will surprise everyone in the not to distant future.

Sci Fi fans are loyal, dedicated and committed. Something most network executives really do not understand.

The Magnificent Seven.

A classic film devolped for television, staring Michael Bien, Eric Close, Laurie Holden. Premiered on UPN, moved to CBS, was batted around to a few timeslots before landing on Friday night, where it did poorly and was canceled. Imagine that.

It was brought back the following year after a fan letter writing campaign, and was given a Saturday night timeslot. Me, I'd have put it on after JAG, which had quite a few crossover fans, and had conquered it's timeslot soundly with Mag7's target demographic. But hey, you all know how everyone was screaming for 60 MinutesII.

Btw, for you Farscape fans out there, what would be the best introduction to the series? Should I start at the pilot and go from there, or should I start later. I've heard the first season wasn't that great.

Truth to be told, several of the first season eps weren't as strong as the later ones, but they were still good. I would suggest starting with the pilot and going from there, since many of the later episodes are dependent on early episodes. Trust me, once you give Farscape a chance, you wont look back.

most 'bad' farscape EPs are still better than most 'good' other TV EPs. and what the really bad ones are is still dabated, depends on taste more than anything because there are (almost) no really bad ones.

so start with the pilot and watch in order and steadily. you'll see hints in S4 back to S1 EPs, and so on. and when you're done, watch again from the start. there are lots of little things you will have missed on the first run and can then really appreciate on the second run.

I do love Farscape and have watched my UK DVDs now numerous times. it's not at all like Firefly as it's about almost only aliens and just one human. but it's much like Firefly as in the big "alliances" are the bad guys and the running fugitives and criminals are the good guys. there's no military structure that's portrait as good and not even a captain on board. they do vote for a capatain in the middle of S4 but no one listens to the elected captain afterwards because it just doesn't work for them. whoever has the plan is boss and everyone plays to their strengths. that's how it works on Moya and if you like that concept (roleplayer?) you'll love the dynamic of the crew.

they are all well developed characters, the actors are great and the stories are fresh. there are "used plots" that others have done before but they always work out in a very Farscapish manner, totally unexpected. it's funny and sad in a matter of moments. feels much more real (in space with mupped aliens) than most other shows. it really isn't a stupid muppeds in space gag show like casual viewers might see it. but you really have to watch it with your brain turned 'on' and in the right order and from the start else it would be just a funny space muppeds show with weired people talking weired stuff.

and now I'll stop it's still a Firefly board here. even if I love both shows equally.

Don't forget about Babylon 5. It was canceled after season 4, but made the move to Sci Fi for season 5. Too bad though that season 5 wasn't nearly as good as the others (ok, I'll even say it was bad). It always seemed to me that everything planned for season 5 was squeezed into 4 and 5 was left without a purpose.

I actually read a summary of what the fifth season of Babylon 5 was going to be like had they not been forced to tie up the civil war in season four (and if Claudia Christian hadn't left). Basically season four would have ended with The Face of the Enemy and the last few episodes of season four would have played out during the early parts of season five.

Apart from that Ivanova would have been the one who ended up with Byron instead of Lyta and they would have used Sheridan's use of the shadow telepaths in the civil war as the catalyst for the colony's rebellion rather than the knowledge that the Vorlons created all telepaths.

Additionally Day of the Dead would have been pushed back to after the telepath arc and would have focused more on the resolution to Ivanova's story where she partakes in the ritual hoping to be reunited with Byron but is visited by Marcus instead and is forced to come to terms with her grief for him.

Apart from that the season is not that much different to the one we got, yes it gets to the point a little quicker and contains no stand alone episodes because of the absence of the remnants of the civil war arc but almost all of what happened in season five was always meant to happen.

I think I would have preferred Ivanava more. Her leaving so quickly left things feeling undone. Her character always had more to come out and I think that's one of the things I was waiting on.

Not that I didn't like Lyta, I did. Byron on the other hand.. while his character was all right, didn't really do it for me. I liked the idea of what was happening with the telepaths, just not how it played out.
