I was curious to see if administrators knew. Since theres no member number next to screen names, I can't tell if theres 1000 of us or 10000 of us on here. Just curious I s'pose.

How about a non-administrator?

A quick and dirty way to figure out how many accounts are registered is to look at people's usernumbers. Right now we're about 16900. Just doing a glance at the community page shows the highest number user right now is u=16922 (SheUnderstands) who registered half an hour ago. And there is no u=16923 as of this typing so there you have it.

The actual number of accounts is less than this by about seven hundred for various reasons (relating to skippage and accounts for the old Andromeda site that were deleted back in 2002). And the number of people who create an account and then never return was running around 50% last time I checked. So active users is much smaller than accounts.

* edited to add: You can get a feel for registration patterns by varying the usernumber and checking the date of account creation (just tweak the numbers using the following link: http://www.fireflyfans.net/showprofile.asp?u=##### ). For example, when the movie was released the highest user number was about 12200. So the number of accounts has grown by almost a half since the opening. There were similar spikes when the show first aired and at the release of the boxed set.

Also, if you ghost over a person's linkable username at the top of each post the user number will show up in the status bar of your browser. It's an easy way to figure out how long someone's been around.

I'm number 7921 and I joined mid 2004. By trial and error I found that the latest member is number 16922.

There are currently 16154 registered users. There used to be more, but I cleared out some of the really old dormant accounts a couple of times during the past several years.
