How do I make a video?

Hello all

I've been wanting to make a fan video for an age, but not being particularly technically inclined I just can't figure out how to capture the DVDs onto my computer.

I've done some looking around and apparently I need to convert my DVDs into avi format. I have downloaded a couple of programmes that say they will do this, but each time I've tried they say that they can't find any IFO files on the DVD.

What am I doing wrong and what software should I be using? Bearing in mind that I have zippo money for buying any actual software and need something free :)

Any help would be appreciated.

One of my favourites for converting DVD to DivX(avi) is a program called "Auto Gordian Knot".

if you do go to videohelp.com, don't let on what your source material is, they frown upon that.
