That was brilliant! I never saw any of the trailors Universal put together but, judging from the crappy publicity Serenity got, I reckon it's a safe bet yours was much better!
I love the end where you used the 'Understand your part in all this?' scene, genius!
Great job, hogwaffle.

Your trailer is VASTLY superior to the one that Universal released. Because you conveyed sense of what the movie is about, instead of simply providing a managerie of action scene cuts.
The only thing I would have done different from yours is add the "I'm taking your sister under my protection" line somewhere, to further involve Mal's role in the trailer itself. But otherwise this is outstanding, and again, much superior to the one that was used to market the film.

my only problem was the music. requiem for a dream uses that song, and it's my all time favorite movie. no other movie can use it (not even serenity) and not bug the shit out of me.
requiem for a dream is super super dark. which is why i think that song fits so well with the movie. serenity is not as dark, and i think the song is far too dark for the trailer.
other than that though, awesome job.

Wow... and Thanks!
When I first saw the orignal trailer I was like OH No.
Then I went to see the movie and was like OH Yes.
What a great job.
The fact that it is on YouTube may draw in recruits.
U Gonna Be Smart Here Riva?!?!

Wow...
When I first saw the trailer in the theaters, it gave me a kind of "Oh wow, another generic sci fi movie...joy" (note that I had never even heard of Firefly before this). When it came out, I heard some good reviews, and decided I'd go check it out. The opening with the great panning around Serenity had me grinning like a moron, from that day I was hooked. The trailer with all the funny jokes and quips made it look stupid. This trailer however, makes my hair stand on end. Great job man.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that an intelligent fan with little to no experience in marketing and a domestic computer could do a better job than a troop of Hollywood experts with focus group reports, years of experience, money in hand and a desire to make more of it. Not surprised at all.
How's about this: the next time Universal says "The fans will market the film for us," why don't they put their money where there mouth is and LET US DO IT FOR THEM!!! Honestly, it saves them money by (A) not having to pay the marketing people and (B) fireing them, and we know it gets done right.
It's a dream, but hey, I can dream. I'm actually making headway on that Firefly pinball machine, and if that's out of the dreaming stage, so can this.
You say tomater, I zater matermorts!

Yeah, it's mindboggling.
But then again, it's not. The fan who made this trailer loved the BDM, and believed in it, and made a trailer that was honest about the movie, and it shows.
Universal marketing people were too busy trying to find an angle to sell the movie, to make it "hip" and "cool", but end up leaving the audience with no idea what the movie is about, and no compelling reason to want to see it.
