Last time we raised box-sets for thetroops it was a grand success. Look through the archives here and you'll find some details.
I seem to remember that it was easier to work with the navy from a tech p.o.v. The sets in Iraq may not be NTSC or something; they definitely are on the ships.
I would also receommend buying a copy of the boxset and the movie and donating them to your local library, assuming they carry dvd's. It is amazing how many people watch movies from the library. And they're more willing to take a chance on something since they don't have to pay; it's a constant fan-converter.

Shiny!
I was a tech in the Navy for the first Gulf War. We were just happy to get the lastest Star Trek TNG episodes back then.
I may even do what you suggested.

Boy, sure hope so! I bought a copy for my daughter, now it's time to buy one for me (all mine!) and for my son as well!! Giving additional copies away is a great idea... I'm makin' a list (and checking it twice...)

I'd hate to draw comparisons here - but I'm forced to.
We Browncoats are fighting the battle of Serenity Valley. When FOX (The evil alliance) pulled Firefly - you can practically see the ships lowering to the ground to squash us. And we continue to fight onward - years later.

For the UK release (Which I've just pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk), the cover art is different, and much better!

Yes it is, and the UK trailer was much better than what we got in the US. I'm convinced that had we have had that trailer in US theaters, we would have done better in that opening week.
"The last thing I want is that any of our descendents should look back in some years and despise us for not daring to act when we had so much capacity to act. We must dare to seek how, why and on what we agree. We shall thus be able to join together to look for alternative solutions and new ways of managing the world's challenges. Being diverse is our richness, acting together will be our strength". (Federico Mayor; 02-04-01;

I agree, I want more episodes. It should start back right where it left off, and I want to see River freak everybody out with her slow realization of her unique abilities. The interaction between the characters is part of what makes it such a success, and I don't want to miss a second of it. I'm not one to obsess either, or buy excess, but I will for this show.

C: NO ADVERTISING! I didn't know Firefly even existed until I found the box set in the store after the show was cancelled. I watched Fox all the time. Now, I refuse!
FOX blames Joss for the failed show, but when you see the above, you realize that FOX is run by idiots
Patron: This woman's a witch!
Malcom: Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down!
I agree and punt SciFi up there with Fox.
If you can't keep the continuity of COURSe people loose interest..
I probably would have been watching Firefly when it originally aired but I'd never heard of it till I saw adds for Serenity in theaters.. I wanted to see it then cause it looked good. Then I found out it was based on a TV show and started trying to FIND Firefly.
I now own the DVD box set and plan to buy Serenity as soon as I have the money. Fox Doth Blow!
~ I aim to misbehave!

...and it is much cheaper ("30% off") for you than it is for me despite it's practically the same DVD (the ASIN number is identical to the one at German Amazon). Strange pricing system

EDIT: I did the math and the exact difference is about £7.00 (according to the current Euro/Pound exchange rate). Shipping not included which means this is an actual difference

I guess this is the penalty for taking the UK shortcut instead of waiting another several months for an official German release. I can see no other reason.

Damn, you're right. That's much better. I hope we in the US get that cover if/when we get a 2-disc special edition (I can dream, can't I?
). I don't much care for the US cover.Just have to add this: SUMMER IS SMOKIN' HOT!!!
