Would it be that they've already sold the quantity of DVDs that they have on order? I would think that would mean they just order some more... I have no idea what sort of lead-time is required for a "manufactured good" like this.

Does anyone else have it available for order yet, or is Amazon the only one?

Ok, I did some searching, and "Best Buy" has Firefly available for pre-order as well. I wasn't able to find it anywhere else... anybody find it anywhere?

I think they only have an alotted amount that they can sell (either on pre-order or total) and they have to ask for more from the manufacturor even though it is it won't be out til Decemember. Hopefully, they will order more so they can be on pre-order again soon. I think they just weren't expecting our little canceled show to sell so well. Silly Amazon.com...they should know better than to underestimate us Browncoats!

While it is an inspiring, proud-making thing to have sold out the pre-ordered stock in a matter of days, this is nonetheless worrisome. You see, our little notices have yielded new fruit, this time in the form of a news item on Cinescape (which listed us as "alert fans." Trouble is that folks who investigate on the strength of this and other news items will now find the DVDs to be NOT AVAILABLE, which may dissuade the less intrepid from pursuing the matter any further. I do hope that Amazon lines up a peck of new disks right quick, or would-be purchasers may not have the pleasure of swelling the ranks of Browcoats. Mayhap some (genteel, plaintive) letters to Amazon may be in order...Ready, Browncoats...Aim...FIRE (politely)!!

Okay, my letter to Amazon reads as follows:

There isn't really any reason to focus on Amazon, is there? REALLY- selling out one specific vendor and none of the others noticing does little good- sell out ALL of the vendors!

I don't see any reason not to send folks to BestBuy ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1324175&skuId=13565019&type
=product ), or anywhere else we can find it. Somebody somewhere will notice the volume of sales, and it will be the total, not just a surge on Amazon, that will be important.

I see it's a 4 disk set. Best Buy wants more money than Amazon but it's still worth every penny!

Well, it depends on the volume of sales we realistically think we can get. I think it would be better to sell out one vendor (and get high on their best seller's list) than to get fair or mediocre sales across 3 or 4 different vendors. However, if the 1 merchant we have been focusing on really can't accept additional orders, it would be better to start focusing on another one, especially with the 'less intrepid' newbies we are trying to get on the bandwagon -- they will be discouraged much more easily than we if they see an out of stock message.

Did you happen to notice that Bestbuy has Firefly listed under the "Horror" genre? Maybe they heard about the Reavers (or what fux did to the show) (whispers) "the horror...the horror..."

Actually, they also list it under scifi, but when you do a search for it, it comes up under horror. I assume that it is an alphabetically thing - but horror? Why even list it there?

On a related note, it is odd how many places lump science fiction and horror together (most video stores and many book stores.) Are they too "foxed up" to realized that there is a difference?
