Hello to you all, new here.
Been lurking here for a while now, and seen some discussions about Simon in the series vs Simon in the movie. Especially concerning his rescue of River.
Now, many people seem to believe that the movie just simplified it with getting Simon in to there, but in Pilot the fed mentions something that I just can't leave without telling you: "I know what you did for your sister, I understand. It doesn't make you a killer."
Now, he could just be saying that because Simon is pointing a gun towards him, trying to convince him he's not the killer type. But the way he says he makes it sound like Simon killed someone BEFORE, but during circumstances concerning River that didn't make him a killer (and thus killing the fed would put him in an a lot worse situation than he already is in).
To me it sounds like Simon actually had some real action in rescuing River, which really would remove any form of contradiction between the series and the movie.
Edit: Look at the look Simon gives River right when the fed had said it, it is as if he's thinking "Did she hear that? She mustn't know I'm a murderer."

...which would be a natural reaction, even though he knew by then that she was psychic. After all, how many psychics do we deal with on a daily basis? He would still naturally assume that his private thoughts were private.
It's an interesting theory, thanks for sharing. As I see it, it could be interpreted either way. Except -- we know Dr. Mathias survived Simon's shock-baton. Presumably the others in the room did as well. So what killing would the cop have been referring to?
Oh, and by the way... welcome!

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Simon has never killed anyone. In War Stories, at the end he says "I've never shot anyone before." Shepard responds, "I'm pretty sure you still haven't"

That would indicate that Simon has never killed anyone with a gun. He could have very well killed by other means available to him.....

doesn't mean he never blew any one up with a bomb or grenade...
I'm not sure Simon was seriously worried about River's psychic abilities, just because the Academy was cutting on her trying to make her psychic doesn't mean he believed that they had succeeded...
until he saw proof in 'Safe'
I don't know if Joss always planned to show a scene with Simon going into the Academy to release River himself, but I don't see any big mystery or conflict about it...
it all seems to work out fine for me.

Yeah, I realized that right after I posted.

Never the less, it is a good point. It does very much imply that he never killed someone before. But that might be that the way he killed someone before was an accident or something, and when he was shooting he was actually trying (if not succeeding :P) to kill people, in combat.
