The first record I bought was in 1985, and it was a dopey children's song album (I was 6)

First Cassette I bought was the soundtrack to Batman. (The Prince-heavy one)

First CD I bought was Toad the Wet Sprocket.

God, I feel old...

Hmmm, the 1st tape was I think the Fern Gully Sound Track, cause come on, Tim Curry ROCKS! LOL!! I think my 1st CD I'm shamed to say is the Backstreet Boys single. Wow!! I was a frickin' teenie-bopper!!!! LOL!! I sware, my taste in music has greatly improved.

My actual album to call my own was Oasis's "Morning Glory". I had to buy a CD to go along with my new boombox...

As for tapes, not sure, and I never owned a record when I was a babe..but I do own one now...a Donna Summers record.

The first cassette tape that I truly loved was ABBA Super Trooper...the first tape I went out and bought with my allowance was Cindy Lauper She's So Unusual..I used to dress up in my grandmother's old 1950's dresses and heels and lip sync to it in front of a big mirror.
I think I was 10 or 11..I still have the dang tape too..
First vinyl record was David Bowie Heroes...and bought at the same time was Sisters of Mercy..
First CD..I think..hmmmm was The Creatures first album..can't remeber the name.
What a neat question to pose..takes you back to those strange days when what you listened to was your life.

Wow...this makes me feel sad...fortunately all of this was far enough in the past to be able to claim adolescent lack of experience =)

First LP - Kiss, Dynasty
First Cassette - Ratt, Out of the Cellar
First CD - Dread Zeppelin...I don't even remember the name of the album. I was all excited because it only came out on CD at the time. Now I'm sure it isn't available anywhere.

I don't think I still have any of them, and I haven't listened to them in at least a decade or more if perchance I do still have them =p

It was 1975, it was my 10th birthday, I got The Captain and Tennille, "Song of Joy" album (on vinyl, of course.) The first album I went into the store and bought with my own money and no parents present was "Saturday Night Fever." I don't listen to either of them any more! Tapes and CDs, who knows???

I started out with my two sisters old LP records like Boston, Kansas, The Who, Todd Rundgren, Supertramp, etc... Hand-me-downs after they got tired of them (I'm the youngest by 5 & 6 years respectively).

The first ones I bought with my own money:

1st LP: Michael Jackson's "Thriller" - Perhaps the last great album he did before he went loony-toons.

1st cassette: Men at Work "Cargo" - Had just got a walkman for my birthday that summer...

1st CD: Seal (1994) - Was using a rented 4x4 SUV, a laptop & GPS unit to make an up to date map of Grant County, WA for their new 911 system (mid 90s' - mapped 3500+ miles of roads over 3 months). Bought a CD walkman, cassette adapter and the CD... Averaging 300 miles a day with only the 1 CD for a few weeks lets you REALY learn every note... The amazing thing is I still like Seal and have collected all of his albums on CD now.

Hmm... WOW! It just dawned on me WHY I simply HAD to have the phatnoise unit for my car. Now I have just over 650 CDs worth of mp3s on a hard disk attached to the sterio. I can drive for months without ever hearing a repeat (or comercial) unless I want to.

2nd CD: Men at Work "Cargo" Had to update cause the tape got stretched and wierd sounding. Just had to have a good copy of the song "No Sign of Yesterday". I must have listened to that 100 times on the cassette after I got dumped. Looking back, it was silly kid stuff but it still hurt. Now the whole album just brings back good memories of that summer.
