I didnt notice myself until someone else asked this on a different board, but the shepard is nowhere to be seen in this episode.

Book helps pull an unconscious Jayne back into Serenity. Comments that Jayne "weighs a ton."

A sad day for fans of the Shepherd, but at least he showed up (unlike Ariel.) Poor Book.

Nine characters is a lot for writers to find things for in every episode, especially when there's a strong guest star like Saphron.

Originally, I think Ron Glass was only contracted for 10 eps (source: http://www.trektoday.com/news/270202_02.shtml). That's why he wasn't in "Ariel", I believe. However, if he has only 2 lines in an ep, as he does in "Trash," maybe that was a way of keeping him despite the contract?
