Fanfic idea (help request)

Hi,
I'm a "new" fan who rediscovered Firefly recently (along with most of the rest of the world it seems). Well, the other day I was sorting my music collection and stumbled across a song that I hadn't heard in a long time, and suddenly there's a fanfic idea rattling around in my brain. But you see, I don't write fanfic. At least I never have, a few blatent Mary-Sue stories when I was a kid, but nothing real or serious. So I'm looking for a bit of guidance from someone who's done this sort of thing and is willing to give me advice and feedback while it's in progress.

I don't know what advice to give you other than just start writing! I, too, had never written fanfic until a couple of months ago--actually hadn't written anything since highschool, way too many years ago--and I'm finding it to be a fun way of expressing myself creatively. If you've got an idea floating in your head, write it down! Just, please, stay away from the Mary Sues.

Is there a way to PM you through this board? I'd really apreciate some feedback regarding the details, and suggestions on how to approach some of it, but I don't want to bore the entire board with random thoughts that may or may not become a story.
