There was an article on that Joss wrote on some website I think it was TVguide.com (but don't quote me on that) in which he jokingly stated where he thought the future of TV was going. In the article he made fun of Serenity and Firefly and quite basically said 15 other remakes would be made all with different names. I think he was making fun of this little statement that he made in this article that was taken out of context by some. I think he means if given the chance he'll do more but due to various legal issues the name will change.

Ain't that just shiny?

on all of the fan site where Joss has posted himself, or one of the crew etc,
Joss has categorically stated that if he got the chance to work on Firefly/Serentiy again he would jump at it.
All of the cast and crew are up for it.
No-one is ruling anything out!(But I think Dan is right about the 'Firefly, but not as we know it' thing)
oh, and the Matrix reference was a joke, to be taken with the same pinch of salt that the 'Nathan smells of turnips' statement was meant to be.
I'm beginning to think that theres a conspiricy to make the fans try to forget about it, all these stupid magazines printing the same tired totally unconvincing spin on some really rather positive words of Joss's.
If I didn't know that conspiricy theories were for the terminally moonbrained I'd be convinced that theres some malevolant bug-eyed fox exec sitting in his darkened office pulling out his hair in an attempt to put the most negative slant on every word uttered out loud by the Firefly makers. (Especially when you consider that somebody mentioned a suspicious lack of anything even remotely Firefly themed in fox's shops and websites....hmmmmm....)
What I do absolutely believe in however is shoddy reporting.
And that is all this is.
Don't worry, keep positive, 'tis good for the kidneys.

This is nothing new. Joss has been saying this since the movie was announced that he wouldn't bring Firefly back to TV. He can change his mind though in the future but I think Whedon firmly believes that the future of the franchise is in movies not TV series. Perhaps we could see spin offs later like what happened to Star Trek but I think any future in the franchise will be in movies or perhaps mini-series.
Right now, Whedon is contracted to make "Wonder Woman" and "Goners" which unless the studios void those contracts we won't be seeing any of this franchise for a bit (which does allow us to build a larger fanbase)unless Whedon as has been mentioned before hands the reigns of the franchise over to Tim Minear (co-executive producer of Firefly and director of "Out of Gas" and "The Message" episodes for those not in know). Both Whedon and Minear said this is a realistic possibility. I myself wouldn't mind seeing Minear do a sequel since he did do my two favorite Firefly episodes.
Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Especially where it says:
"I'll do my best to tell stories that cause as much trouble as this one did. And if I ever get the chance to return to this one... in case it was ever unclear due to shoddy journalism, sign me right the hell up."

I've read those messages from Joss time and again. I've read plenty of his posts and plenty of interviews. The thing that jumps out at me is the difference in his tone. When Firefly was cancelled he was fighting for the verse to come back in any way shape and form. He was putting all his effort into it. The statements he is making these days are much more passive. "If some money shows up on my doorstep with a pretty bow on it and the words Serenity II on top, then I'll make the movie" as opposed to "I won't stop until I find a studio and the funding to get our verse back on the screen".
Could it be that the verse has pulled yet another freaky coincidence on us? Joss puts his heart into the battle for/of Serenity and comes out having lost his faith. Just like Mal, his faith is still there, he's just not actively pursuing it anymore.

Oh well, I'll just hit myself on the head hard enough so that I pass out and wake up next to my firefly/serenity DVD's and think they are new releases.
If it ain't broke....

Yes, but that response was in regards to the EW article that said that Joss didn't want to do any Serenity sequels.
But Joss has said in the past that he didn't want to see the franchise return to TV but he could always change his mind.

Ummm..
Is _ANYONE_ else reading the same words as me? Joss said "Firefly" the original TV series is DONE. It is. It's all wrapped up in a neat little box of 4 DVDs.
He also said "Serenity" is done. It is. It's wrapped up in another little DVD box.
I take great encouragement from reading it in the context that he is done with those 2 projects but completely open to NEW adventures with the BDHs in the 'verse given any kind of REAL encouragement from Universal or possibly some non-FOX affiliated TV franchise.
I would even suspect that given a guaranteed, iron-clad contract for production of several seasons WITHOUT exec interfearance in episode order, etc... he might even be persuaded to go back to FOX but that would be a realy LONG shot. May be too much bad blood there now.
C'mon Sci-Fi. Go for it! The apple is ripe for the picking!

One more optimistic post about trying to buy the Firefly rights from FOX then I might just go out of my way to set up a fund for that same purpose.
I wonder how much the FIREFLY rights cost...
Niska: Oh, you do not like I kill this man?
Mal: No, I'm sure he was a...very bad person.
Niska: My wife's nephew. At dinner I am getting earful. There is no way around that.
