read any interview or any commentary with the crew and actors and you can almost see the regret that they didn't get to continue with it oozing from the page. I really don't think that getting the people who made it to come back is going to be a problem.

As for the rights, I think having cancelled it, the network is in a pretty weak legal position, the only thing they could do would be hold the right to ransom.

In that case we just have to hope that Joss's lawyers are more evil than the networks.

Does anyone realize the legal ramifications of switching networks??? no matter how many petitions you sign its not going to make the lawyers do what we want.

Yes, it will. I'm not an expert on the movie buisiness, but it has been four years, and no matter how much Nathen, Jewel et al love the series, Joss has moved on to other things, and his stars signed a contract which doesn't allow them to appear in another firefly TV show.

not sure where it was, but that rumor I think was signed off as total bunkum, knowing actors, theres no way you'd get them to sign something like that with out complaining endlessly.

Even without that, I don't think commandments like that are usually included in normal contracts. Theres just no point - you don't wanna make a show, but why ruin your chances of recieving fat cheques if someone else does? I can understand people thinking that something like that could be stipulated, but it just doesn't come off as good business practice. (or rather, good money making)
Not to mention that its very likely that all contracts were declared null and void at the cancelling of the show, the only thing that Fox have control over is the character and series patents or whatever the word that applies to thought copyrighting is.

Technically, they put the show on 'hiatus,' which, while theoretically the same as cancelled - because they have no interest in renewing it - is probably different when talking about legalities.

And, however much they might like to come back, Gina would have to drop a few things, and Joss, and probably all the others. This wouldn't have been a problem if contracts didn't exist, but...

I didn't realize this was actually an old thread... I tried to sign the petition and it told me I already had! I don't even remember signing it. Although, the really odd thing is, I just joined here in July, the thread's from way before then, and I never knew about "Firefly" until a few months ago... How in the world did I hear about this thing and sign it? Ah, well. It doesn't matter.

As for the debate on whether or not it will actually work... who knows, but what does it hurt to go ahead and sign? I don't see much of a bad side to it, so why not? Though, I have to agree... spellcheck & some proofreading would've been a very nice touch.
