Nice test. I got Simon 80% / Wash 80%; Kaylee 75% / Zoe 75%; Inara 70%, not bothering to list the rest. And I'm not surprised.
As for the theory... interesting. I know the first time I saw the movie (never having seen the show) his death hit me like an emotional sledgehammer, because I really started to feel for the character only about thirty seconds before he died. So there I was, inwardly cheering, watching the relief of the crew that they'd landed safely, and suddenly... SLAM. Twelve-foot spike through the chest. I nearly felt as though I was the one dying. So if it was anywhere near as difficult for him to kill him off as it was for me to watch, poor Joss!

Ya Wash's death came as a shock for me too. I really didnt expect it. After it happened it was really a WHOA! moment because i watched firefly and loved Wash's comic side. I loved how he would make a joke to hide his concern. When he died in the show it was like what was Joss thinking? Maybe now though when Joss gets to do another show (pray...) Joss will have River start flying... hehe

Then it's just a matter of which hits harder - coming to truly love a character and then watching him kick the bucket a half minute later, or coming to love a character over the course of a show and then going through the whole [ cancellation / oh look, a movie! / GAH DEATH ] thing.

I don't know which death was harder though, Wash's or Books. I really fell in love with Shepered Book in Firefly, he was the voice of reason. He really kept all the crew in-line. But Wash was the humor, aside from Kaylee and the often sarcasm from Mal Wash was the comic relief in the show and the Movie. Which makes it hard to think which one I will miss the most.

The only worry in ones mind should be looking back on ones life and wondering what they did with it.

I never cared that much about Book. I didn't like him enough in the movie to care about his death, and to date the one moment of his I like the most is the bit with River and the scary hair.
