Comcast (in my area at least) just added the Firefly episodes in 3 episodes blocks for $2.99. It is found in the On Demand menu under "Events & Specials". I haven't seen them do this for a show before. Since I am waiting to get my Firefly DVD's in the mail, I decided to show my support and order one block. They seem to be in the order that they aired, so I ordered a later block containing Serenity Parts 1 & 2.
I had watched this original pilot a couple years ago, and I remembered liking it, but I didn't really think too much about it. The show was headed for cancellation and there was no talk of a movie, so I didn't see the point in getting too excited about it. However, now that I have rewatched it, I think it's great!!
I hope a bunch of people order the episodes On Demand and keep buying the DVD's. It looks like someone's taking notice if they felt it would be worthwhile to put them On Demand (and for a fee).

This is very interesting. Looks like the powers that be are finally taking advantage of new technology. About freaking time!!!

I may have to order a block just to see if Comcast is showing the original versions or the SciFi "insert new sound effect here" versions.

Please explain. I have not noticed the changes.

The episodes being shown on SciFi have added sound effects. For example, in "Serenity", when Simon is running to the infirmary (in slow motion) because Mal has told him that Kaylee is dead. In the SciFi broadcast you can hear footsteps. In the Fox broadcasts and on the DVDs, there is only the background music.
Edit to add: Here's the original thread, with props to AURaptor for first noticing!

Darn! You beat me to the announcement. I was going to post this right now.
I was playing around with the on-demand through Comcast here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I clicked on the tab for Events and Specials and all of sudden I saw another subheading that said "Firefly-Serenity." I was shocked and excited!

Footnote to my previous post: It looks like Comcast has January as SciFi Month with Star Trek and Firefly. It appears the movie "Serenity" will be available in February on pay-per-view. Plus, if you click on the episodes 1 - 3 link, you can watch a preview. The preview is one of the original, long promos for Firefly before it premiered on Fox. It's a treat if you haven't seen it before!!!

Honestly? This trailer is good, but nothing like the show (and it spoils the River thing).

I noticed the SCI-FI sound effect effect too, and wondered at it. When Mal kisses his cross in the battle scene of the Serenity pilot, an irritating kiss noise was inserted. Odd.
The comcast preview is interesting in that there are shots that are not in the episodes -- one where Mal hits Simon in the cargo bay (shown from behind Simon) and one where Jayne is messing with the reveiver, and Mal turns to look at Jayne for the second delivery of "'Cause I'm standing right here." I wish they had used that take, it seems to work better. In the episode version, Mal keeps looking out over the valley.
