Technical help with clipping for vids?

I am having trouble making vids due to the copyright protection on the DVDs. My usual way of making clips (since I have no clipping software on my computer) is to rip them off the DVDs onto my DV camera, then transfer them onto the computer. Unfortunately, the Firefly DVDs won't let me do that (it'll record for about five seconds, then a red flashing thing saying "copyright protected, dubbing forbidden" flashes up on the screen and it stops recording).
Other people making vids seem to be able to bypass this, any advice on how?
Just for the record, I have a mac computer, so windows programs do me no good.

I don't have a Mac so I don't know if I can be of any help, but I use a DVD ripper and then a DVD encoder. The encoder takes the VOB files and coverts them to another format (mine does mpeg I think). The encoder I use is DVDx 2.3, but I don't know if that compatible with Mac or not.

You need Mac the Ripper.
