thanks for the info on the plasma, Lax101. I agree pan and scan really stinks but like I said if I'm sitting in my recliner my tv is just too far away to view widescreen movies and see the detail. If I sit closer it's ok but then I'm being bombarded by radiation :-) I'll check out the LCD/DLP/LCOS sets. Didn't think of the LCD projector option. I used to work for Advent Corp. who pioneered big screen projection television and still makes stereo speaker systems but back then in the early 70's the screen image was really dim and the sharpness wasn't there yet. Technology has made some huge strides in the last 3 decades.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Serious question (hope it's okay to temporarily derail the thread): LAX01, I've never been a big fan of Bose either, but what's the problem you have with Monster cables? Are they substandard in some way? Just overpriced? I'm curious -- like to know what I'm missing.
Thanks.

Went to Wally world (Wal Mart) and they only had 4 copies of the BDM left-all in Fullscreen and this is a small town in Eastern NC of about 10,000!
BTW have you looked at Amazon lately-the BDM is still #1 and Firefly is #3-only those pesky penguins keep us from having a 1-2 punch for Christmas!

on a brighter note, i work in the home entertainment department of a wal-mart type department store, and manage to suggestive sell us out of firefly every time we have it in stock
it passes the time until febuary...

Here in Fargo, I've only checked two stores. Walmart had some copies in a few places, but the big boxes where they display all of their new releases were all gone except for some fullscreen versions. Best Buy had a few more copies that I would have liked to have seen, but they might have gotten a new shipment in. Why do I say this? Because I was just there a few days ago and they had about 12 copies of Firefly on the shelf (they've been restocking since the movie hit theaters. prior to that, they normally stocked about 3 on the shelves), but when I was there yesterday, those 12 copies were down to 3. I'm sure not everyone who buys the movie also buys the series. So i saw this as a good sign, especially here. I also saw a number of people with Serenity in hand at Walmart. One guy was explaining to someone that it was based off a canceled series, but had such a following that it got a movie. The guy I know who works at Best Buy wasn't working yesterday, so I didn't get to ask him if he knew how well they were selling. I'm just glad to be hearing all of this news about it selling well.

Maybe I'm just a purist, but I couldn't even watch the Fullscreen version of Serenity. My mother bought it for me at Sams on accident, because I didn't specify Widescreen (I didn't even know there WAS a seperate version instead of a pre-movie option). I opened it up to see if I could handle it and I just couldn't. I saw the movie four times in theaters, and I could tell I was missing what felt like half of the screen. On some movies it's not too bad, but with Serenity it was completely noticeable. Just my personal preference, but the Widescreen is really just perfect, even on a smaller screen. :)

Boy, is my face red... :)
I hit Target yesterday after work, sick as hell with the flu, and was just so excited that they actually had a few copies of Serenity left that I grabbed one. It wasn't until I got home and opened it that I realized it was the full-screen version. :(
Aaaahh, well... Guess I'll have to support the cause and buy the widescreen as well!
Awesome news that Serenity's sales seem to be doing so well. Like the man said, "Can't stop the signal!"

Thanks.
Substandard? no. Overpriced? VERY.
Acoustic Research makes the same quality product for half the price. I highly suggest them. I've also started using a Chinese brand called NXG...I have their HDMI and subwoofer cable and they are also high-quality (for the money)
I just watched the first half of the BSG mini-series on the new screen, and I cannot be happier...its amazing watching tv at 92" :)
