I don't tend to think of it as an obsession. It's more like a hefty command of utterly useless knowledge. I'm a total geek and proud of it, and a lot is SciFi:
Star Wars - What can I say I'm a fan of the OT. Not the prequels as much...nothing to them but CG and effects. But even still, Serenity/Firefly has surpassed it on my list. My stormy costume is on hold for right now because of it.
Farscape - It carries a lot of the same feelings I hold towards Firefly. Good characters, decent effects. And Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
StarGate (and SG-1) - I remember seeing the trailer for the first time when I was younger, and thinking what a cool idea. And when the show came out, I was skeptical, but felt it turned into something good....and then wierd...then good again...then the second season started...
Post-Apocalyptica - My favorite genre to write in. I love the idea of starting over, wondering what or how people would live. Or how society would progress without our modern luxuries.
Jury-rigging things - I know it doesn't really go along with movies or fandom...but it's something that keeps me sane. I see something thats not working, and I make it work...or I make something new out of it. Which is nice in my line of work.
Generally, I'm just a fan of good film. I have a collection of posters and trailers (on film) from films I like. When a story has all the elements, characters who have (hey here's a novel idea) charatcer, and a world where I can get lost in it and believe that I'm there...then I like it. And I must say, Serenity pulls that off quite nicely.

Futurama- Even though my geekiness for this has cooled, it's still one of my favorite all time shows. The similarities between this and FIREFLY are too numerous, but it has its own distinctive quality to it. Where else can you see the Heisenberg principle used as a basis of a joke?

I love this film! Love it As soon as I saw it I knew no other film was going to ever surpass it - Serenity seriously wobbbled it, but it stuck fast.
Its the only film thats affected me since my 'film heart' froze over. The bit at the end in the airport when the music kicks in, and you just think, yeah, b*****k's to caution, live it, don't think about it. Its pure elation, and yep, I cried, in the middle of the theatre, whinged my little heart out.
Ahem, anyway. It also introduced me to the Shins, which Jumpy mentioned, and i'm eager to hear more.

I loved Clerks, never thought I would when it was described to me, but it was so lucky that I gave it a go anyway, Dogma was brilliant in that it fully supported the idea of god, or rather of faith, but it wasn't afraid to prod it a bit, see what happened, whether your ideas stood up to the prodding. And i'm a terrible prodder, in every aspact of my life, so I identified.
Plus they killed Matt Damon and Ben Affleck at the end of it. it was all good.

There are more than what I'm going to list below, and due to a lack of time at the moment, these won't be particularly good descriptions. In fact, they're pretty much just going to be quick fanboy rants for now.
LEGACY OF KAIN
As a video game series goes, it's pretty fun. In terms of the storyline and voice acting, it's absolutely top-notch. Sadly, due to mediocre sales, the story may never see its conclusion. In the most recent game, Legacy Of Kain: Defiance, we saw a major plot arc resolved, but there's still more that needs to be told. If we don't get another sequel, for LOK fans, it would be the equivalent of stopping Lord Of the Rings after the Battle of Helms Deep.
Yes, it involves vampires, but it's a vampire story in the same way Firefly is a sci-fi show. It uses a well-known element as a base, but takes it in new directions instead of just following cliches.
METAL GEAR
YES, I get to be all positive and shiny here, because not only is it one of the greatest video game series ever with highly memorable characters and a nice, twisty storyline... it's popular. Unlike with our beloved Firefly and the above LOK, it won't be killed off before its time. Ever since Metal Gear Solid was deemed one of the greatest Playstation titles ever produced, there hasn't been any worry about whether the next entry in the series would sell well. It's got a lot of heart, and it's going to keep on beating. Looking forward to MGS4!

I've found that most of the things/shows I've become hooked on have been something of a slow and steady build-up, and not an instant hook, and some have faded into my past, while others have grown in popularity to take over.
Earlier in my life, I was huge on Star Trek. I still really enjoy watching episodes of DS9 and Voyager (voyager being my favorite of the ST series), however I've never seen a single episode of Enterprise.
I was a huge fan of X-Men all throughout my teens. I still have a large collection of X-Men related comics.
I was big on Magic the Gathering for a few years in my late teens, but that has since cooled off, mostly because there's nobody to play with in my neck of the woods.
Stargate-SG1 & Atlantis. I have all 8 DVD sets of SG-1, and the first set of Atlantis. These series are definitely in Firefly's league, and that's saying a lot.
Firefly was an immediate hit with me, and has since grown into obsession. I remember when the series first disappeared from the schedule of my local broadcast station, and thinking it was just a local station thing, and being pissed at them, becuase I figured that such a great series couldn't have possibly been cancelled, but my local stations are notorious for dropping good stuff, just because they're too cheap to keep buying it.
Oh, and I find it hard to pass up old, Lever action rifles. They are very nice.
