'Trash' question

OK, so Mal apparently gets incredibly painful-looking wounds and injuries left and right, but when he's naked in "Trash", there are no visible scars or even scratches. Does this bother anyone else? (Especially since he was supposed to have been tortured by Niska in the previous episode.)

In truth, I never really thought about it. True, Mal would probably have a variety of scares all over his body. I have to admit that this is absent during his naked time in 'Trash'. However, in the defense of this wonderful sci-fi series I offer these two rebukes:
1) In the future, medicine is such that scares are easily healed. I offer 'War Stories' as proof of this as Mal had his ear cut off, and yet, with futuristic technology, it was healed and never a scare was noticed.
2) Suspension of disbelief: In other words, Mal's scares were not of importance in the telling of the story. Suspension of disbelief basically says that the viewer realises that this story is fictional and will suspend critical analysis in order to enjoy the overall story. A good example of this comes from another science fiction story 'Star Wars II', In which Obi-Wan meneuvers his space craft around 'sonic detonators'. Now, it is scientific fact that sound does not travel through space, and yet, the sound effects of the movie clearly indicate the threat of such devices. However, for the thrill of the action, we, as the audience, forgive such transgretions in order to enjoy the film.
In other words: It's just a TV Show!!! Don't think to hard, and just enjoy it!!!
I only offer this defense, becase 'Trash' is one of my favorite episodes.

The only thing I can think is that theres a hell of a lot of time goes by between each episode, 'cause there never seems to be any carry over of injuries.
Plus they were filming in drenching sunlight, its not much of an excuse, but (having found this out on an sfx make-up course) even a point and shoot camera flash can drown out make-ups like scars.
Also, from what I can remember (I'm very likely wrong), most of his injuries easily visible (torso whatnot) were small cuts and electrical (?) burns, they don't always leave highly visible scars - all of the really nasty stuff they seemed to be doing in places where, the, uh, camera can't go. Not with out an x-rating anyway.
Poor Mal, and poor Nathan, for having to think about it in sufficient detail to act it out...
*abuses flimsy excuse to hug Nathan)*

So they were my hastily though up excuses, anyone else?

Ah yes, but what about the great, nasty thing in War Stories that goes just below his ribcage? THAT would leave some kinda mark.
But yes, I (being in theatre) understand the suspension of disbelief. It was just this one thing that irked me.

See this is really rather simple. Great medical advancement and a gifted doctor, took care of those scars in the series. Mal and Simon were getting along fine. Somewhere between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie, they stopped getting along so well, obviously by their behavior in the beginning, and Simon didn't treat the 'New' wounds which happened to be very close to the older wounds. Maybe Mal just sewed 'em up his on self.

Medical advancements must be the reason. In the message, Tracey has had all his major organs exchanged yet Simon only noticed scarring upon closer inspection. And i aint gonna look too closely at a naked Mal!!

My thoughts are this: at the end of War Stories, they get to use a bunch of very nice, advanced medical equipment courtesy of the infamous councilwoman. It's highly likely that Simon used these not only to sew Mal's ear back on, leaving no visible scar, but also to treat his other wounds. Thus making him look nice and pretty in the next show.

I never really noticed that in Trash until I saw the BDM. Mal had the scars from The Train Job and War Stories in the movie. I thought that was a nice touch so I checked Out of Gas and Trash and saw that there were no scars at all.
On a related note, Mal's browncoat doesn't have the scar in the movie. To quote Jubal Early, "Does that seem right to you?"
