Well, as my wife and I are killing time until going to Wal-Mart at midnight, we decided to go to the mall and wander about a bit. Visiting a game store that also sold little pewter shiny things, I asked the clerk if they made a little "Serenity." The venom in his negative reply was overpowering. Apparently, he attended DragonCon in Atlanta clad in a brown duster and was repeatedly mistaken for a Browncoat. Oh...the...horror. He then tersely (in his best Comic Book Guy way) told how the only episode of Firefly he liked was the one where "that bounty hunter guy almost killed everyone." What's in Chinese? Anyone? Anyway, we then proceeded to Suncoast where that clerk was an obvious Browncoat who not only told us of a supposed easter egg on the Firefly discs, but also gave us a free mini-poster! AND GOOD NEWS! Suncoast sold it's last copy of Firefly as we were standing there! You can't stop the signal.
So, question: Has anyone else encounted this kind of geek snobery? Have you been shunned because you fought with the Independents? Discuss.

I can't say that I've encountered this type of snobbery when it comes to Browncoat-dom. But I just have to tell you Rual, that I laughed hard at this statement!!

Actually, I've not encountered it with Browncoats, even when I was in my "Yah, so what's a Firefly?" stage. *hangs head in shame*

But being a long time Highlander fan, Yah. I get it there ALL the time.

He's just jealous because he's not one of the cool kids.

My friend and I were talking about Serenity at work. He didn't like it because Wash and Book were killed off but I totally loved it. As we were discussing this another guy we work with came up and interrupted our conversation by announcing that Firefly was crap and Joss Whedon sucked. Of course, he's a film school drop out that wears Cosby sweaters, so we didn't pay him much attention.

Sweater offences aside, the dropping out of film school and apparent lack of taste in film or TV has symmetry.

Well, I tend to describe Star Wars III as "the CGI showcase movie where Darth Vader kills the annoying children". Is this geek snobbery in the eyes of Star Wars fans?

You know what I was actually victim of the reverse. When I first got interested in Firefly I went to check out merchandise etc.. after two minutes talking to the guy at the counter he told me I wasn't really interested in the show because I didn't know much about it.
(I didn't but I was learning- hence checking out merchandise and RPG stuff?!)

I was kinda miffed about that, luckily not all of us ff fans are that mean.

The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems.
