I got hope, but where are our angels?

That is why there has been so much negativity lately from non fans. You know those people who became members of this forum just to say mean things to get fans upset. They see the good news and know we still have a chance for a sequel but want to dash our hopes anyway. Now, it is time for us to see it too!
Serenity is #1 on Amazon and that is just based on preoders. There are some people like my brother who saw the movie, liked it, and will buy it on DVD when it comes out even though they know very little about the tv series. So, there is still hope for great DVD sales.

Well, I'm still hopin'. It's all I've been doing since Firefly went "on hiatus" back in December of 2002. I heard the movie was coming in January '04 and got all excited. I read the stories of folks sneaking onto the lot during filming in summer of '04 and got more excited. I heard rumors -- post-production -- that Serenity would be released direct-to-DVD rather than theatrically and got worried. Then it was announced that the BDM would definitely be released in theatres 20 April 2005, and I was relieved. Then, just months short of that goal (like, November of '04) came the news that we had been bumped to the last day of September '05. Another six months to wait?!
But wait we did. What choice did we have? Could we just quit the love of our lives and find some other girl to court? Not a chance.
As September approached, the country was ravaged by not one but two disastrous Gulf Coast hurricanes. Quite apart from the heart-rending devastation in coastal areas, fuel prices hit every American pocketbook, per-gallon gasoline prices increasing by over a dollar and a quarter, nationwide. Folks, that's a lot of entertainment budget drying up. The movie came and went while the nation mourned and tightened its collective belt.
Mind you, I still paid for 12 seats, personally. But, the theatres were mostly empty, not just for Serenity, but for everything else showing at the time (you know, like that big-budget Jodie Foster flick, whatchamacallit). Bad timing, similar to F*x's singleminded devotion to the MLB playoffs of 2002, spelled doom for our chances at the box office, this time out. Our 'BDM' is a 'BDBOF' (Big Damn Box Office Failure).
Them's the facts. But we ain't through yet. It's just time for us to pull off some of our usual thrillin' heroics, yet again. Other movies -- like "Underworld" and Universal's "Chronicles of Riddick", for example -- have done enough business in DVD sales to offset less than enthusiastic 'box' and sparked talks about sequels.
We, the Browncoats, can trump those performances and get Serenity into the black again -- both artistically and fiscally -- where she belongs.
It's all about belief, as the good Shepherd Book put it. I believe we will make Serenity a success. We didn't have enough time to make her a box office success; but, we can buy DVDs 'til the cows come home, without the burden of a theatre-owner's whimsy.
And, finally, I believe we will see our ship and crew again, on the big screen or small; because this is a free-market society, and if we throw enough money at the studio, someone will shimmy on over and scoop it up, and serve us up another helping.
So, I'm not just hoping, I am believing that Serenity will fly again...

And please, God... Er, Joss... Let Zoe be pregnant with Wash's child in the sequel, as she revealed was her heart's desire, in HoG. It's the only way to partly make up for his death. I have longed to hear Gina -- a classically trained mezzosoprano -- croon a lullaby since that episode. How heart-breaking would that be? Maybe The Ballad of Serenity, hmmm?

And yeah, I can just hear Zoe's tired, soulful voice gently crooning, almost lost among Serenity's reassuring rumble. . .
