Oh, yes, the publication of this story has damaged the fan base a bit -- I have no disagreement about that. And I don't think people should stop mentioning it online, as the more it's discussed, the more people can understand the truth about it.
Personally, I know that if the DVD sales are exceptionally strong, Universal will look at the landscape again. I also know that Joss (and the cast) are under contract for sequels should Universal option them. I also know Joss has been kicking about sequel ideas, too, and the other day he said in an interview he'd love to do a sequel.
I also know he uses closure as a way of expressing his feelings of the movie. The TV series might not have been massively visible, but it got made into a major motion picture which got released all over the world... You know, for me, I'd be happy. I'd be gleeful. I'd feel like 'If nothing else comes after this... At least it got a big damn movie'.
Unfortunately, Joss moving on makes a far better headline -- I bet they got a lot of hits from this article, far more than if it had said nothing interesting.

How many threads with this damn article in do we have to have?! How many are there now?
I specifically like the way it DOES NOT QUOTE ANY ACTUAL WORDS FROM JOSS SAYING HE IS NOT DOING ANY MORE FIREFLY OR SERENITY.
Plus, the movie has made more than $25 million, because, hey, there's the rest of the world, don't y'know, not just the US. And there's DVD sales yet to come.
I'm tired of seeing this
I agree with you. There aren't any official quotes, this isn't official. Joss wanted the show to keep going, he didn't want it to die.
DVD sales can do everything. Take Napoleon Dynamite. Did OK in theaters, I had personally never heard of it until after its DVD release. Now that's a huge phenomenon, all because of the DVD release.
Serenity is doing OK. I don't think we can count it out yet.

The article is what it is...the TROLLISH part is the misleading and inflamitory thread title.
The actual article title is ADIOS, FIREFLY and does have a spin that Joss has moved on to other projects. It doesn't say there will be no more movies in the future about the 'verse...though I am sure that this is what the writer of the stroy believes.

Hey Seth, yeah, we've seen this article before. There was a thread about it not too long ago and I had done a little research on it myself to try to confirm or deny. That article was posted by EW the same time tvguide.com posted this one (please read through the thread here)

Basically reiterates that Joss is still waiting on DVD sales.
Depends on the writer of the article I guess, and what point of view they have on it. Some seem to think that Joss is done, some don't.

They're drawing conclusions based on very little evidence. Even if Joss is busy doing other projects there's still Tim Minear and Ben Edlund.

I like how they say "despite Universal's best effort to market" the movie. Definitely makes me question the author of this as we all know that Universal didn't really market the movie to its full potential.
