Hey all

Last night, I saw on SPACE that there was a PLANET OF THE APES double feature on. PLANET OF THE APES and BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, I think. Imagine my surprise and horror when the first one was the god-awful 2001 remake and not the 1968 classic.

But it got me thinking. The APES movies were the first real sci-fi franchise/allegory that paved the way for STAR TREK and WARS and a lot of other sci-fi greats.

I was just wondering. For all those who have seen the five APES movies (PLANET OF THE APES, BENEATH THE P.O.T.A., ESCAPE FROM THE P.O.T.A., CONQUEST OF THE P.O.T.A and BATTLE FOR THE P.O.T.A) and disregarding the cinematic crime against humanity that was the APES remake, which I think everyone who was involved with it has disavowed, which ones were your favorites?

The first one was a masterpiece, no doubt about that. The second one had its moments. The third also had its moments. The fourth really stepped things up in quality. Caesar's rant at the end hit the right notes of terror that wern't diminished by the tacked on end with the voice over and awkward zoom in on the eyes. And the fifth one seemed like a wrap up of the franchise that probably wasn't on the whole necessary, although that "Ape has killed ape" bit was also really creepy.

So which of the APES flicks are your favorite. It's interesting to note that unlike other franchises in which the budgets of each flick escalates, each of the APES films actually got cheaper and cheaper.

"YES!!!I'm a man posessed by many demons....Polite demons that would open the door for a lady carrying too many parcels...BUT DEMONS NONETHELESS!!!! Yes. I have walked along the path of evil many times, it's a twisting, curving path that..actually leads to a charming plot garden, BUT BEYOND THAT EVIL!!!"

3.Escape
4.Beneath
5.Battle
6.Crappy Remake

I liked the first three well enough, and started losing interest with the last two. But if I were to pick just one favorite, I'd have to go with Beneath The Planet of the Apes for the simple and perhaps shallow reason that Linda Harrison just looked so dang hot in it. She looked good in the first one, don't get me wrong, but something about the way she looked in the second one...can't quite put my finger on it, really did it for me.

Linda Harrison was a total dreamgirl for me growing up, and even now, though she may have grandkids around my age, the woman is still a looker! *where's a drooling emoticon when you need it?!*

The 1968 original is in my top 5 all time fave list.
Beneath is a worthy, albeit cranked-out, follow up. I love it for the 'Holy Bomb' thing (and it was the first science fiction movie I ever saw in the movie theatre!!!).
Escape is absurd. Not even human Earth technology could have raised Taylor's ship, dried it out, made it work, AND SOMEHOW FOUND BOOSTER ROCKETS TO LAUNCH IT in only a month or so.
The other two have their moments.

BTW, I saw all five twice at the go ape for a day run they had in the seventies. 9 hours of apes make you crazy, man!

The only good human is a dead human Chrisisall

Easy here too. Planet of the Apes. The ending just blew me away. I was a little to young to understand it the first time I saw it but later it really hit me.

And us girls drooled back then over Charlton Heston in nothing much but a loin cloth and muscles.

That was a long time ago when I was quite young. I know I'm giving away my age here but right now a certain actor (Nathan) that is younger than I am by about a decade is the hottest thing in Hollywood.

If I was a gal even I'd like Mr Fillion. LOL. As much as I like Nathan my fave actor is Johnny Depp. I just think he owns every film he is in. Even Platoon when he never said a word and just carried a lil Vietnamese girl. LOL
