I'm starting a new theory thread... What does everyone think is this lunatics REAL name? Don't tell me that I'm the only one whos curious.

My theory is that she's an orphan and was never given a real name. Like she was raised in some horrible Oliver Twist-esque orphanage and was only referred as "that red-headed one". Thus making her into the YoSafBridg we all know and despise.

No, I think she picks a different alias for each job. If she gave away her real name to anyone, it would help to track her down.

Well, the refrences to "acadamy training" the Inara made after facing her say that either she was at the acadamy at one time and left or was tutored by another companion at some point. It's possible there are records of her somewhere but probably really hard to get.

my theory was that she had lied about her name so often, that when mal asked her, she couldn't remember it. like, just for that moment, she realized that she couldn't readily recall the name someone who had loved her had given her. that was what i read in her face, right before mal smacked her.
not like she had totally forgotten her name or anything, but when put on the spot, she realized that that part of her was gone.
