A plasma cannon that uses enviromental gas heated to ~10,000c by a miniture fusion reactor and then accelerated to nearly the speed of light by rotating magnetic fields?
A Jedi wouldn't need to dodge. Just use telekinesis to rip some of the wires out of the workings. Peasy.
No Jedi's dodgin' nutin' if they're a crispy critter

I read somewhere here about the Pulse Rifle:
The underslung on the M41A Pulse Rifle is a 4 round pump action affair. The Rifle ammunition clip can take a maximum of 99 rounds.
As a side note the Aliens pulse rifle was modeled on top of a Tompson sub-machinegun chassis with the wood stock, handle and handrests removed and a plastic casing added.
More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
Remember, the ice caps aren't melting, the water is being liberated.

My very favourite gun is the M41A Pulse rifle from the movie "Aliens". The sound it makes is just awesome!

There's no way you can subscribe to this thread without coming over as a psychopath (or at least someone who hasn't fully thought through how to carry all the ammo...)

Medium to long range, Phaser Rifle. I'm sure I can come up with a whole list of things do do with a weapon that has a "vaporise" setting. ;-)
Really close range, Cold Steel Recon Tanto.

I've not read everyone else's responses...
Gimme a pair of Ruger New Model Super Blackhawks, .44 Remington Magnum, unfluted cylinder with the square trigger guard, 10.5" barrel.
If Roland Deschain carried a modern gun...THIS is what he would carry.
Revolvers never jam, and if I can't kill it with six rounds, I shouldn't be fucking with it in the first place.
Besides. I've never needed six rounds. I've only ever needed one.

okay, i'm not very inventive and i distrust new weapons technology so 500 years in the future i'd go with:
my walther p99 9mm
(and i know that running out of ammo is a problem, but i'll just have to be a good shot)
a double barrelled shotgun
the swamp rat knife i have in my back pocket
and a nice, long fixed blade
the busse american kinsei sword that is coming in the mail
i know, i know... pretty low-tech choices when you have 500 years worth of technology, but there's just less to break.
well that, and i like knives a lot.

Heh, I like the "pen" response. I also like the real-life weapon run-downs. I would prefer to snipe over a cq fight so I would prob. take the blaster or slug-thrower w/ the best accuracy at long range. A barret .50 perhaps, tho I do vaguely recall Sol Bianca once showing orbital sniper shots w/ some sort of laser rifle.
Cheese-response (tho true): the best weapon is one you're familiar w/ using (incl. knowledge and exp.)
What would I want to own? Lightsaber, no question...well maybe a Lamat...

If we want to talk about sniper rifles(.50 Cal Incendiaries are fun)...anybody remember the Farsight from the original Perfect Dark? (whoa)...memories...of PAIN! It was suppose to prevent camping, not spawn a new era of camping...
Crowbars are fun and functional...
A Daisho would be nice as well...
and that Bolt Thrower Joss mentions in the Serenity Commentary wouldn't be a bad idea either...mmmmm...Bolt Thrower....
