Serenity up to #3

As of thurs 12/15 at 4pm ..Serenity is at #3 and Firefly(the series) is at #12 on Amazon.com's top sellar list...
This is significant for several different reasons..
1. They are both competing against some hugely popular titles(March of the Penguins,Revenge of the Sith,Madagascar,Lost season 1,Family Guy vol. 3,Seinfeld,Simpsons,Oprah,40 year old Virgin etc....)
2. Firefly came out 2 years ago and Serenity has not been released yet.. All of the other titles in the top 20 have already somewhat recently been released..
3. A cobination of #1 and #2 and its current rankings on the Amazon top seller list (amongst others)should be opening some eyes..
4. My understanding from a Whedon interview as recently as Dec 10th 2005 is that the future of the Firefly/Serenity franchise depended on the success of the DVD sales (i dont want to hear that the movie killed hopes of any sequels ) I am going by Whedon's words as of Dec 10th of this month...From what I can tell the DVD is already on its way to being successful so what is next??

Woo-hoo!!! This news just made my day. Thanks for the report.

Joss himself said it - DVD sales are going to be key in determining the future of our beloved 'verse. If we keep it up, that future could be shiny, indeed.

I am glad to see someone being positive for a change.

I noticed that today as well. It is right behind Star Wars. That is great advertising right there! I search amazon all the time to look for rentals and movies to see at the $1 theater.

Can we make it to #1?

thanks geejake for the good news!

although a lot of trolls (any of ya visit the imdb boards?--jeez) like to consider serenity a flop, i kinda view it as the little engine that could. (crosses fingers). ah, wouldn't it be nice if serenity becomes a dvd blockbuster (no pun intended), warranting a...dare i say it?...sequel? (crosses fingers harder).

Thanks for the update, I'm one of those that's just plannig to run out and buy it on Tues. instead of ordering it. Getting it in the store gives me a chance to run around holding it up and screaming, or something to get others to look at it. I was just wondering if you or anyone else could post a link to the top sellers. I'm curious how another cult "tv show" with a recent movie is doing. Are the Aeon Flux DVDs anywhere to be seen in the top sellers? Just interested in comparing.

Firefly is Amazon.com's 16th bestselling DVD for the whole of 2005. It was 61st in 2003 and 60th in 2004 (It was released 9th December 2003). Can't be sure but I'd guess that it has sold more copies because of Serenity than it did because of airing on Fox.

Yeah, and people are still quoting that "500,000 Firefly sets sold" figure, which was the total BEFORE 2005.

So I'd have to guess the Firefly set has at least topped 1.5 million sold by now.
