American I take it? We may be your most loyal allies but that's not saying much when most of the rest of the world seems to hate you :P
Not offended at all, I feel annoyed for my fellow Browncoats in the USA :(

Okay, first off, we don't need to sing the ballad of serenity, we need to sing the ballad of Jayne.
...and more importantly, buy ALL three versions of the dvd, and support the Serenity 2 fund

I'm in the uk but I've got my R1 version currently winging its way over the pond so I can have it by christmas, and I'm planning to get the uk and aussie ones when they come out.
you're getting yours 1st in america so it makes sense that there would be less on it otherwise there'd be no incentive for people to buy subsequent releases.
it really pisses me off that people are trying to stir up this kind of bitterness and succeeding. the war of independence? hello, I'm 23, I wasn't exactly around then...

Well said. Look, we got to see it early in the theaters (for some of us, VERY early), and we get it earlier on DVD, too. So basically, who cares if the UK DVD has more to it.
And, as an American, I do get sick of the whole "we kicked your #@*!" and my personal favorite, "If it weren't for us, you'd be speaking German!" mentality that is all too prevelant over here. No wonder half the world hates us.

As far as I'm concerned, this talk of extra features on the foreign release disks is just further confirmation of a bigger special edition release in the (relatively) near future.
They can call it Serenity: The extra-shiny edition.

The Movie Industry is ruining the Movie Industry.
Pirating is making a profit of of someone else's material. The Movie Industry Doing things just like this (different versions, Multiple releases) is what makes honest people resort to a Free alternative.
Personally, I always buy something that is of value, like the serenity DVD. but I will DL the Region 2 extras if I feel the need to watch them.
Black markets always pop up when a commodity (in this instance movies, music, etc. ) is artificially priced above its true value.

Most new DVD players are region free, even if not advertised as such. I bought a new Toshiba couple months ago that will play all regions. $60. So if I have to spend some more on the Brit version of Serenity what's that to me. Firefly is worth.

I think the overseas distributors might have demanded extras so that they have a chance to compete with imports which are available 2 months earlier.
Multi-region DVD players are very common in the UK because there are lots of things that are never released in Region 2 or that we have to wait ages for. Only people who don't know about region coding would buy a crippled player.

I agree with this theory. I'm sure Joss doesn't hate the American audience. It's a movie based on a failed TV show. No big stars and hardly any marketing. You can't expect much and Joss knows that.

I've asked several of my Aussie friends where the Australian nickname of "pom" as a name for the British came from. I've hear highly divergent stories, but nobody seems to really know. The only consensus is that it's an insult (big surprise there). Do you happen to know where it comes from?
